So this pot was sold pretty cheaply ( I have published it here not too long ago) since it has a chipped spout, but now that I have it something about it seems fishy to me and I'm considering returning it. What do you think? does this look legit? the broken part reveals the clay which seems weird to me (I maybe paranoid, of course).

Legit? Looks like a typical 80-90s niezhiwaihong pot. Stop over thinking this pot and see how it brews since that's all that really matters.

check out these pics of the lid (forgot to add them before). It was obviously painted. Perhaps by a seller trying to make it look better? You don't think there are any concerns here?

No concerns at all. It looks like a Neiziwaihong teapot: the body of the teapot is made from a brown/purple clay (zini?), while the outside is coated in a thin layer of red clay (hongni). It may look weird, but these pots are quite in demand nowadays.

Thank you very much guys.
But what is this thing that looks like paint on the lid? I just never seen something like that on an authentic pot from that period.

Red clay. This is very common style of pot from this period. Almost all the F1 green label pots from 2088taiwan are this style. Yours doesn't look like F1 though.

What about seems non-F1 in your view?

The handle looks odd and the red coating is really sloppy on lid. I'm not an expert though so I could be wrong. If this isn't F1 than the price you paid was prob high. Good condition Non F1 pots like this are easily available for $50 or less from places like eBay.

I paid about $20. The chopped spout is a price killer. even of not f1 the clay is still decent right?

$20 including shipping? That's not bad as long as you can deal with wacky pour or can fix it for cheap/free. Clay looks fine. Try it with puerh.

Did F1 ever use four-hole filters on shuipings? All of my F1 shuipings are single hole.

Non F1 pots from 80-90s are easily found on eBay. Even authentic F1 pop up occasionally.
