Hello all,

I recently saw this piece and I wanted to know if my assumptions might be anywhere near correct, some sort of 20th century, factory made piece, any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like a vintage teapot to me. My guess is around 1970-1980. Some photos on the inside would help. Anyway, it seems like a nice NZWH Xishi.

I wouldn't call my self as an Yixing expert but I'd certainly would question the lid inside ( around the knob circled area ) which hasn't been affected by "tea patina" ?
To me it would suggest that it was hanged up on string trough the hole and fixed inside to not fall off when dipped into some solution to make it look like patina later.
Please note, I'm only speculating based on what I saw in Yixing couple weeks ago ( shops specializing making old teapots. ) , but haven't seen the work in progress. I've seen later work in progress in Jingdezhen and made some pictures of it ( will blog later , when finish Xmas buzz. ) .
In Yixing I was offered an old teapot which had also sort of patina covered surface , especially in the areas where rims ( corners ) are , but was sterile clean inside ( and I was told teapot was often used ) . From what I've learned so far, to spot the fake ( unless some obvious one ) you still have to hold it in hand and touch the clay. For making those "patina" effects, they use some shoe cream.

In this specific case the part on the lid is what you would expect from the hongni coating process, so alone I wouldn't take it as indicating forgery

like that clean circle and sharp circle?
So what is the reason , that it's not coated right there and like in quite good circle?

I'm not 100% sure on the process but the circle in the middle is the hongni coating and the part around is the actual clay of the pot
