Hello people :)

I got a rong tian shape teapot that I like very much. Unfortunately the lid was forever lost. Do you know any place where I could find a lid for it? Maybe someone has one, after an unfortunate event of losing the teapot, but the lid remained? Is there a place where ai can buy one?
The size would be +-42 mm internal diameter and +51 mm the external diameter.
Thanks a lot in advance.

i've never seen a place or service to get lids.

i think your options are:
  • get a new pot
  • ask an artist
  • acquire tools and skills to make a ceramic lid
  • settle for making a simple lid with a focus on basic functionality
for the last option, perhaps you could fashion a very basic lid out of sheet metal. casting a lid out of various materials also would not be outside the realm of possibility. you could look into investment casting, for example. perhaps even starting with CAD and FDM to make a mold to yield your wax pattern.

realistically, i'd just get a new pot or hope to eventually find a well fitting lid from a random pot you don't care about.

this is a long shot, but i guess you could also put out a WTB for a lid with suitable dimensions. perhaps people could look at their collections of pots they don't care about, and a donor lid could be found.

I believe it is possible to brush out a mm with sanding paper , as potters do after firing ( when contractions messes up with lids ). If you have a precise measurements ( not +/- ) , I can check other teapots.
Please note, that I sell only whole teapot.

Thanks for the reply! I found some lids but yeah, it's hard to find the color, size, texture etc. That's why I asked around.
Maybe this may help someone, this is the seller I found:

There is also another one with gaiwan lids.

If this pot is really important to you and you can find local potters, you could ask them to make you a replacement. It probably won't be an exact match, but at least it would fit. If you have lots of other pots, one of their lids might fit well enough that you could use it for both. Otherwise, you might try posting a WTB as @pedant suggested.

If you are able to shop on Taobao, searching for “紫砂壶 盖子” gave me not a few listings for replacement lids with various specifications to choose from. I cannot recommend any specific shops because I've never bought from them.

I've got a duanni pot that I picked up at a local brick-and-mortar tea shop run by two Chinese ladies. Eventually the lid broke, and I did inquire about the possibility to have a replacement made by the original potter. The shop owners told that that it would be "difficult" (i.e. impossible) to replicate the original firing parameters, and the clay might shrink unpredictably. I don't know if this is the definitive answer, but either way it seemed to me that they just wanted to steer clear of any hassle. You might have better luck asking ceramic artists directly.

(My lidless pot has been stowed away for some years now, waiting for me to take it to a kintsugi artist (I have the pieces). I believe it would be worth it, because it used to be a very comfortable pot.)

Nice story! Hope you will repair it! I just wanted to try my luck, maybe there is a potless lid somewhere.
I have a lid that fits, but it's not potless)))

This is my Frankenstein:)

I can second that recommendation, sadly I had to take recourse to that seller as well already. It's mainly slipcast, but better than nothing and measures are indicated correctly.

Thank you for feedback and information! Ordered one, hope it will fit and look cool! Will come back later with an update after it will arrive! Still if there are any lids that would look good on this teapot maybe I can find something better!

Coming back with the update :)
The lid arrived, I did not find the exact color, but pretty similar. There was around 1-2 mm difference on the real lid compared to the size from the vendor's site, but basically it was close. There is a small lift, but the functionality is restored and my teapots do not have to share one lid anymore :)
