As mentioned in the yixing thread, there is a group on Facebook who analyzes the composition of yixing clay using edxrf. Based on videos on the Facebook page, they analyze the base of pots and have quite a database so far, which they used to have at least one publication on barium levels.

More importantly for us they offer a nice selection of pots at great prices. With the pots come a certificate of analysis using edxrf for the pot.

I actually picked one up - Ben shan lu ni - for about 115$. Seems quite well fired and with very clean workmanship.

Some pics below along with analysis results

Update: I was curious about how they establish their specs for the various elements. I learned that for barium, it is set at 1000 based on data showing clay with added barium has 1500 or more while there is natural variation of barium in raw ore that can go up quite high. The 1000 limit is set to establish high true positive rate for clay with no barium addition. Of course false positives/negatives will always exist.

Not much- they are very nice with great Taiwan facing prices

I chat with them a lot on their researches. They shared with me quite a bit of data

Also- they tested the pots as we chatted-and I went over the data and asked for more tests - which they immediately did for me.

Interesting story: they took a while to find clean zhuni. They did it in this way- their business to test pots is older than their pot selling business. One of their clients had a "clean" zhuni and they followed up with him to find the workshop. They now use that workshop to source the full handmade zhuni.

This is fascinating, Leo. As a person who does not own a cellphone & other common technology, I am overwhelmed by the ability of those people to do what they do from videos. Dinosaurs like me will soon be bothering you for help finding pots  (Good deeds rarely go unpunished.)

Btw - clay for my pot from this group is the same as in the pot shown off by kyarazen - confirmed it was sold to him by this same vendor. I think others have gotten this pot too. I think 115$ is pretty good, albeit a simpler shape. The craftsmanship is very clean

i know i should probably ask them this, but they have a few pots at "NT$9,999" – should i assume that is not the real price, and i'm supposed to inquire?

i've been looking for a nice modern zhuni pot (also looking for an old one, lol). i could probably do worse.

I can confirm it is the correct price - and I did get one. Quite good service - they showed me a video of the pot first before I made decision to pull trigger.

The craftsmanship is a lot better than I’d have imagined at that price point. The seams from the press mold seem well hidden and the edges have been cleaned.

It goes without saying that the level of customer service you received surpasses what you would receive from the domestic reseller.

haha, i love the pics of them testing your pots.

did you get other ones besides those two?

have you had a chance to try the zhuni? is it pretty porcelain-like in terms of aroma?
