Back to newer pots... posting this for your consideration. With and without flash, any thoughts? I’ve had this one for about a year. The clay turns a visibly darker red when in contact with hot water, but I was reading both hongni and zhuni can do this. It at least tries to pass on the impression of being fully hand-made with this conspicuous seam on the back, although I lean towards this being just that (an impression only).

Considering how it cost more than 10x less than a genuine antique, sounds about right. Regardless, it performs well in my experience, especially with baozhong! It’s very neutral, accentuating the aroma just a bit compared to porcelain.

As one moves along their Yixing journey, though, the call of a real piece of history rings stronger every year... the recent buzz around ZAG here has me thinking about starting a long-term saving project. Oh dear! This forum has never been too good for my wallet, but it’s been a fine resource in many other ways

... then crack it in the first week because you forgot to prewarm it.

Do you always preheat from the outside first, then inside, to prevent zhuni from cracking?

I always preheat zhuni. I use different methods depending on the temperature of the room. If it's cold, I do something more like what Youzi said, if the room is already warm, sometimes I preheat from outside, it's a bit faster.

Always preheat old pots prior to using them. Can't stress this enough. I always soak overnight, my old pots that have not been used for a long time. It's always a surreal feeling when you hear a subtle crack when you pour hot water on your pot.... it's almost nightmarish... hahahahaha..

Yes, it is a modern pot. Looks quite thin, it would be interesting to try it with gaoshan oolong
