Machine making zisha pot

Am told that many teapots are now made in this way, and then processed in-house to remove machine traces and add manual traces

Good video! Machine made pots typically have thicker walls. Earlier machine pots could only make round inner wall, so people were selecting pots with corners to dodge machine pots. I think in the last couple years, machine can make pots with edges now.

What do you all think about this pot? Black Pillar (黑柱) from the early 80s or replica? It looks a bit too sandy, the color is super dark brown :lol:

I had one handed down to me a few years back, I recall it made not very good tea…

Looked exactly like yours.

Imo replica, the clay does not look right to me...

@Bok What did you do with your pot? It may work well as a water dropper for ink calligraphy writing haha.

@steanze The clay is certainly a mystery. The clay is too sandy comparing to all of my 80s pots. The color is too dark in comparison to dark zini and not black enough for heini from the late 80s to early 90s.

@DailyTX I sold it... that design is clearly not made with tea brewing in mind, water dripper is a good explanation and better use for it. The clay on mine was not as sandy as yours, smoother like the other 80s Zini I had to compare with. Well, I do not know much – or care, about pots of this period, a friend who knows more authenticated it for me at the time.

@haxxor
The underside of the lid rim looks dark purple. Is there a color difference from inside and outside? +1 on modern made.

Looks like it has some Zini or otherwise darker stuff blended in, might be the lighting though. Can't be sure...
