@Chadrinkincat yeah that sounds about right. Entertaining if it weren’t misleading so many people…

Sure there is a lot of potential disinformation in that group, but honestly i think they deserve credit for their work of reading seals for people for free. It is something that most people can't do on their own, and there is some value of knowing what the seal says. E.g. if you can identify the pot as being made in a certain period based on other factors, and one of the seals tells you the cyclic year for example, then it is a very good information.

That should be Facebook's epitaph.

@Bok
Let’s continue this Five Shape/style discussion here, I don’t want to clog up the B&W thread. The bianyuan is indeed rare, I think I seen those in the ROC era.
As I am digging myself deeper into the famous rabbit hole, there were info mentioned about the five shape/style controversy from ROC period differ from the ones we know from F1. I don’t recall the whole story. Do you know any info regard ROC five shapes?

Good move(pun). I do not have info on ROC five shapes. Would be fun though to bring together a few “ancestors” of the known factory basic shapes. I think I’m only missing a Taijian in old version, but that is because I don’t like this kind of spout.

I think shui ping, xishi, and taijan are part of the ancestor category.

Xishi is a shape that I have never found appealing, but also a lot of shapes that I do find appealing have had so many iterations and small changes over time, often to less pleasing proportions or variations to my eye. I'm curious does anyone have an example photo of a Qing era Xishi for example? Or maybe a museum piece? I'm wondering if older examples are as round as a lot of modern ones are, or if it is a bit more pear shaped.
I feel like I've probably only seen modern examples, half of which look to me like a balloon deflating and flying around the room or well... as Louise Bourgeois would say "eyes"

Bare with me I got one. But I’m thinking to make this a new topic instead.

Hello!
I am new in this Forum. I just want your opinion regarding this teapot from Tea-Masters. I am not sure if this is hongni, or zhuni. Thank you! I am considering, too, buying from Muds And Leaves.

Neither. That pot is
Zini, he uses the more vague term
Zisha, which might refer to all Yixing clay in general, or to a specific kind of Zini. In any case it is Zini.
I’d go for this vintage kind, rather than a modern one, but that’s me.
