I will admit I do not generally think about Instagram when looking for yixing pots. Yinchen does have some nice ones. Are there any other studios using IG you would recommend?
I think yinchen is your best bet at this point since they are western market friendly (and western pocket friendly 😂). If you don’t find something you like from their posts, you can always do a custom order. There are quite a lot of clay colors to choose from. Different firing on the same clay also gives you different color. Since you’re an illustrator, you can maybe even send them your design?

Help with Yixing teapot:
Hello, I bought several yixing teapots. They came from an auction of a person who got them in an estate sale. I’m hoping they are real. The red one is a chrysanthemum teapot, I’m not sure about the seal. The brown set of 6 appear to be shut ping pots with a Zhongguo seal. They have tool markings on the inside and sand still in them. I am hoping they are safe to drink from. What do you think? A friend thinks the set is possibly fake.

We can't really give safety judgments without tests, that would lead to liability :-)
With respect to whether they're fake or not, it depends on what you mean by fake. They look like they might be made of some sort of yixing clay, but they also look like they're made to imitate something that they are not. Specifically, the shuipings are made to look like factory 1 pots, but they aren't.
Personally, I would rather use a porcelain gaiwan than those pots...

I posted my F1 dragon style teapot in the Facebook group about 13 hours ago. It already got 49 likes and 6 positive comments. It seems that they think it's genuine. The photos are still not perfect, but the new $140 macro lens (Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 30mm 3.5 Macro) helped a lot. I chose a white balance of 5600k because that's the color temperature of my lightbox. There's also a photo of the clay if someone is interested: https://www.facebook.com/groups/twteapo ... 5919012230

Sounds promising. Any other pots you have hunted recently?

@DailyTX

Yeah, I am quite happy about it because in my opinion it's the teapot with the best clay. I think I'll post my two Three Friends of Winter teapots next because I am not as confident about them.

Yes, a small shui ping from the 70s (I guess) and two more antique plates I can use as tea boats (no fakes... I've been more careful since the last one :) ). I also got one antique tea cup but this has been a mispurchase because the decoration contains lead (stupid of me, I know... but I just forgot). I'll post some photos once the teapot arrives.

Are you sure that that’s the right group to ask for authentication?

@Tor

There are many experienced users in this group that are also in the "Early tea pots II" group, and I already read multiple helpful comments about authentification there. So why would it be a bad idea? There is no better option in my opinion. I cannot fly to China each time I buy a pot and ask for authentification there. :P

Did you also post it in the early teapot group? That would be the better option.

Unfortunately, it's against the rules there as far as I know.

Ahh, because it's a decorated pot? I forgot about that.

Yeah, it's a real bummer, but I still think that the other group is not that bad. It's not that I don't trust the members of this forum, but there are many experienced collectors in the Facebook group, and if something is wrong with a pot it's likely that someone will mention it. If you have a better idea... ;)
