I got some pots from my grandfather a while ago, and never got to posting them here or on Teachat to date them. I know that they're at least from the 80s/90s, but I'd some experts to weigh in. What kind of clay is the super dark zini? It's also got some pretty funky spout/handle misalignment and a weird-looking knob on the lid.

The second one looks quite nice, probably 70s, congrats!

First one is not an Yixing factory 1 pot for sure, might not even be Yixing at all. I'd probably be careful or not use that one.

I've using the second one for a while now, but I haven't done anything with the first one - it's got bad vibes about it

I was seriously considering a LQER hongni pot from ZAG until this chubby guy popped up on TWL. It feels like a bargain in comparison even though it wasn’t cheap.

Have you snagged one yet?

I was about to pick a LQER zini from ZAG. I ended up adopting 2 pots from TWL, one per batch along with teas. I still want a LQER zhuni pot to fulfill my list, then I’ll be good for a long time :lol: I’ll patiently wait for a zhuni pot with a good shape and bargain price to entertain my zisha curiosity. I drink mostly puerh, I am content with my setup.
@DailyTX

Congratulations!! You're definitely in good hands.

Cheers!!

Another one in the series of teapots inherited from my grandfather...it's a pretty thick hongni, and I'm looking to use it for aged baozhong. Any idea on how old this could be?

@maitre_tea

Looks like factory 2 from 80’s. From what I’ve read, seal below the handle were common from F2 but not F1.

Same pot

Nice!

I sorta want a zhuni pot too. Although I have little use for one Other than as a display piece so it’ll probably be my last zisha purchase.

Why is that? What about high quality teas that you would prefer not to have anyting take off, yet with more life to it than porcelain? I can't think of any high grade tea that would not benefit from Zhuni.

I rarely drink high quality teas. I mainly drink early to mid 2000’s factory style puerh and budget friendly boutique stuff.

@Chadrinkincat makes sense then! To be honest in many cases the results of non-zhuni clays are more interesting in regards to impact on tea. Excluding the high grade category or some lighter flowery teas with emphasis on aroma.

@Chadrinkincat

For a moment, put aside @Bok's idea about pairing ZhuNi with high grade tea... hahahaha.... (whispers: notti Bok.....) :D :D :D

Irregardless of grade or quality, ZhuNi brewing any tea gives you a different experience. It might not be the best for some.... but it may be great for a whole lot... hahahaha... so, don't leave your ZhuNi in the display.... brew up a storm with it!... It's a wonderful journey through yours senses.... I'm still traveling on that same journey.

Cheers!!

Has anyone noticed that different yixing teapots can change the texture of the tea as it goes down your throat? I was giving one of my teapots that gets ignored some love and I noticed that the tea I had before which had a silk smooth texture was rough and almost scratchy. This teapot is a bronze grade CP teapot and I was previously using an F1 green label pot.

Haha, you’re doomed now that you discovered the subtleties of clays :)

Interesting that I'm not alone on this... I have a nixing teapot that brings out irritating throat roughness with lower quality roasted teas (but not with high quality ones), adds depth to pu-erhs and softens aromatics of light oolong without muting them, yet it tends to mute darker oolongs more (not much, just a tad)... Kinda unpredictable on how it performs.
