The handle does not look very convincing to me, as do a few other details. I'd be inclined to think this is a replica.

shows how much I know, but were there a lot of replicas of these actually made? I thought the design just sort of updated/switched and that these prunus pots sort of evolved in to the three friends of winter pot. Or was it more that these prunus stmp designs were produced for a long period of time, and we tend to just see different eras of them?

Not an expert on these, but as far as I am aware this kind of style has been around for quite a while… and the amount in circulation is a sure sign that a substantial amount have been faked as well.

I’ll let the friends of the three friends pass judgement. :)

The anti-dumping duties on Chinese ceramics in the EU came as a bit of a surprise. The price for the Yixing teapot bought from China is now so high that you hardly dare to even use it, lest the pan just fall apart. I would like to know if you (in the European Union) have paid the duty on the Yixing teapot as a ceramic dish or with some other tariff.

^ Fancy, signed, handmade pots may qualify as works of art (TARIC section XXI, chapter 97). In Finland, this implies a reduced VAT rate (currently 10%) and no duties as far as I'm aware.

Next time I will have to propose a tariff for the artwork. Talking about the dumping of ceramic dishes is relative when a teapot costs more than one and a half hundred euros.

Two vintage pieces today! One of them unfortunately had a chip on its rim and was reglued - uncertain of the safety of removing the adhesive without damaging the piece further. The other is flawless and has a very interesting conical-shaped ball filter.

Nice pots. You can soak it in a boiling hot water for an hour or two. If it then doesn't come undone under a light pressure, I'd consider it good enough to keep it as it is.

Hi fellow chajin!

I hope you are all keeping well and drinking some good tea. It’s Autumn here and I’m happy to be drinking darker, warming teas again!

I acquired this new pot and wanted your insights. I got it because it seemed fairly unique and unusual.

I guess it’s a Shui Ping. A bit different to my other SP pots. It’s slightly taller, not as squat and the mouth opening is noticeably wider.

The clay looks and feels fairly decent. It’s very thin walled. It only weighs 55g and feels very very delicate - a bit like antique porcelain. It stands around 6-7cm. Thinking of using it for lighter teas - probably Oolongs (Shan Lin Xi etc).

The stamps are nice and defined. They seem to be in the traditional Dazhuan characters - it’s proving very hard to translate and identify the maker.

So please share your thoughts with me. I would love to know more about the pot. Can ‘Yixing’ pots be this light? My other pots of a similar size are more around 80g+.

@Dhammabum Yixing can be very thin, but it’s easier to make them thicker.

Pot looks nice enough!

Thanks Bok! Could we assume thinner pots take greater skill and craftsmanship? ;)

I forgot to mention, the inside walls appear to have circular lines around the pot...

Assume nothing. Machines can make thin things. Circles can mean something it don’t need.

Playing with Dr Frankenstein's biandeng tonight (after feeding its younger sibling earlier today).

Warmed it up very carefully...
