@Chadrinkincat: do we get to see any photos of the base, if you don't mind my asking? I always want to absorb more knowledge about pre-factory pots...

Here’s a few more. It has typical rough interior finishing and a 6c seal. No lid or handle seals. Also turns out this one is 80ml and weights 63g.

I just got this ROC pot which came as a set. Elegant lines and beautiful clay. It looks to be around 70ml so probably ideal for higher end yancha.

That looks as good as a modern pot. Very nice find. Maybe one of the best ROC SPs, I've seen shared around here. :D
Thanks, glad you like it. Proportions feel well balanced. Lid fit isn’t too bad either, not too loose or too tight.

Now I have the itch to buy a yixing. Where do I start? Where do I look for one? 😅

@Teafortea
I’d recommend getting a basic hongni shuiping as an all around 1st pot.

Such as this 120ml one from EOT. Good all around size. https://essenceoftea.com/collections/yi ... ing-teapot

Or if you want a smaller 60ml pot than I’d recommend one of these vintage pots from TWL. https://teaswelike.com/product/1970s-f1-waxy-hongni/

@Chadrinkincat: thanks for that, always good to see pot photos. I don't really know anything about pre-F1 pots.

Looks like yours has the same seal as my 50s puffed lid. but that's the only point of similarity between them.

@Andrew S
Nice! I’ve got a soft spot for these puffed lid pots.

Is that the zhuni one Kyarazen sold on TC?

@Chadrinkincat: no, actually a hongni one, but it's seen enough use to have picked up a nice shine. 60mL, so it's convenient for putting an entire 8g or 8.5g packet of yancha inside for some strong tea.

Hello all! I’m new to the forum. I have almost nonexistent knowledge of teapots so I wouldn’t be able to provide information regarding my teapots. I’ve been given 2 clay teapots that I believe might be yixing teapots. I have a general question about these 2 teapots and wonder if there would be knowledgeable people here who would be able to help 😊

Would anyone be able to tell the quality of the make by looking at these photos? I know that one of them has a mark at the bottom of the handle that says 袁義和 (Yuan Yi He). The other one, I can’t see any seal other than the writing at the bottom of the pot in cursive.

Any info through observation about these 2 teapots would be very much appreciated!

Welcome!

Well, these are interesting first-timer pots…

First one looks like it’s got an antique lid on a modern make body.

Second is not Yixing, but a vintage Chaozhou/Shantou pot. That’s a different teaware making region in Guangzhou which makes pots on the wheel as opposed to the slab built Yixing wares.

Thank you so so much @Bok I really appreciate this. I didn’t even know that the second one is not yixing. I actually have another pot that I haven’t had the chance to take photo of it yet.

I will post it in the nest few days when I get the chance to take pictures.

Size of pot: 180ml
- Clay type: some kind of hongni/zhuni
- Walls: Thin
- Pour speed: fast if not clogged, single hole
- What year/decade the pot was made: my folks got it in HK in the 90s, supposedly made for Taiwan market
- What type of tea you make with it? Sheng puer
- The effect on tea: typical zhuni pot characteristics, and because it's flat/big mouth, does not retain that much heat. Good for sheng puer.
