@bliss I saw these as well. Lots of money in the market. The last 2 pots were chaozhou, that's why the prices were much lower, but still high.

The similar looking decorations from the same vendor still add a worrying twist of doubt to that pot… might be that they all came from the same source and decorations had been added later. Not sure. If fake, the original pot is quite a good imitation from what I can see on pictures.

The Yixing pot look legit old or at the very least a high quality replica. Clay looks different than my pot.

The smaller CZ pot sold for way more than it should have so someone almost certainly thought it was Yixing. These normally sell for less than a $100.

I agreed that the clay looks very convincing for Mid Qing. Unless the vendor keeps posting similar things, there is a chance there is a benevolent explanation for the similar decorations. Based in the UK it could really be out of an estate sale.

And if the Chaozhou is equally old, than 100$ would be quite the bargain! Not all Chaozhou is cheap…

The gentle gloss of well developed patina is quite something…

Speaking of Chaozhou and patina...

The first photo was taken after just one or two sessions.

I neglected to take a photo in its original / reset state, thinking to myself that, surely, it won't take on a shine that quickly... It was rather 'matte' when I first met it.

The second photo was taken after ten or so brews.

I really look forward to seeing how it keeps developing. And it brews yancha pretty well, too, so it's likely to see a bit of action...

@Bok: how is your 1958 biandeng developing compared to this one? Or is it too fragile for a lot of use?

Perhaps there should be a 'show off your patina' page around here.

Andrew

@Andrew S now that you mention it, that is the pot I should have take with me for CNY to give it a booster! I admit to have neglected it so far, got distracted by other pots, so it’s still relatively virgin.

Your Chaozhou on the other hand looks very promising! Fast development.

I finally got a NZWH pot with similar shape + era (unless I’m mistaken). I think I prefer the look of the one you posted.

Very nice! It's a very practical shape. What's the zini inside like? I usually find that in these ROC neiziwaihong the quality of the zini is much better than in most of the F1 versions

Thanks! Clay looks ok, similar to a ROC dragon pot I use to own. I just wish it was a bit smaller and higher fired.

I am glad you got the pot, I was contemplating on bidding it. I had my eyes on the cannon spout shui ping pot by the same seller but got out bidded haha. Congratulations!

Ah, interesting, it is a quite different, lighter colored kind of zini from the one on my version.
Those 3 hole filters are fun :)

Thanks! I was eyeing that pot too but I wasn’t willing to bid much due to the no return policy. Hopefully someone else was lucky enough to snag that one, it was the nicer of the two.

@steanze

It is definitely a bit lighter than my other ROC zini pots. The size and filter type definitely makes this one a bit of a slow pour 20-24s. I might use it as a mini grandpa pot.
