@tingjunkie

My first thought when I saw this pot was modern copy. Clay seems too uniform and lacks flaws/tool marks typically found on these pots.

A bunch of those Japanese eBay sellers regularly offer pots that look exactly like this. $100-150

Here’s an example of similar shape that I got from TWL for comparison.

Well, tuition paid, but not too bad. Even with the auction cost, fees, shipping, and repair, it was only a little more expensive than I'd be happy to pay for a good modern pot. Plus, I love Nissan's staple work. Could have been MUCH worse.

Thanks! Nice 4-5 second pour too. Now if I can just swallow my pride, I can enjoy it for what it is. :D

As long as the pot brews up a good cup of tea... it’s a good pot.

Cheers!!

Here are photos from the auction before the pot was cleaned up: https://i.gyazo.com/0158746873a1cb21a0f ... 3fd3de.jpg
I’m more inclined to a smart replica made to look old. Aside from the lack of tool marks and clay characteristics, the tea & mineral stains are inconsistent with what you see on antique pots. Other surface ware (or lack of it) from age and use also are inconsistent with that of an antique teapot. Imitation pots are getting a lot better. Hence, it’s very often passed of as authentic. We have to look more at their inconsistencies rather than what they have that is reflective of an antique pot.

Cheers!

Help identifying/dating a Yixing pot:
Hello, I bought this pot about a year ago and was curious if anyone has some more information regarding the era the pot was made. Was told it was a pot made for export to Taiwan. It's about 100ml with a seven hole filter, no mark in the pot lid, and a seemingly incomplete stamp on the handle. Thanks very much in advance!

Could you elaborate on this, please? A blend of different zini?

A blend of could-be-anything. Brown, black dots, yellow dots, etc. With modern pots I have not the faintest clue what could be in there... maybe some of the modern Yixing crew can chime in?
