@Chadrinkincat
Thanks for the F1 catalogue pictures. They are very helpful!
And look what I have bought Maybe, I bought this too quickly, but I did not want to miss this opportunity (again). The teapot was not cheap, and it looks different from the 70's and 80's versions I have seen so far. It is decent clay imho, but I do not think that it is black star clay. I will post better pictures later this week when I am back home.
@DailyTX
I compared four stickers today, and I also think that the sticker on the lid looks odd. The (I hope) genuine stickers are more golden and greenish. Or could the other sticker be from another period?

If it wasn’t cheap, it wasn’t an opportunity, was it?

Nice! Looks more like it might be late 80’s version.Mark-S wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 6:37 amChadrinkincat

Not all of us live in Taiwan.
Likelihood of seeing this pot offered by a western tea vendor is very low unless it is a special request by a customer. Emmett is probably only vendor that would be able/willing to sell this at a significantly lower price.
@Chadrinkincat That wasn’t how I meant it. I don’t know the price paid, but I would think this periods’ pots still pop up reasonably often? Chen HY, essence of tea etc.

80’s stuff is readily available but this specific design is rarely offered unless your willing to pay $500 for the one at ZAG.

Yes $500 is an unreasonable amount to pay for an 80’s pot but then again this isn’t a standard shui ping which means it should be priced differently. I found mine at a thrift store for $5 so I’d be less inclined to buy one for $500 but I believe a fair price can be found between the two.
This 80’s pot is priced at $1100

@Chadrinkincat
I’ve also learned that anything where Zishaartgallery doesn’t put a price, is at least 1000+$...

I do not know how common this style is in your country, but this style is relatively rare in the West. I have only seen two of these pots for sale in a long time. Unfortunately, the shipping is often expensive ($50 or even more). The seller wanted $350 including shipping for it, and in the end I paid $175. It also depends on your budget and what you think is expensive. For some F1 teapots (I think they are genuine) I only paid about $25. The last pot with this style (from green label period) was sold for $95 (without shipping) when I was outbid. Hopefully, it is worth it.
@Chadrinkincat
I have not seen a similar pot yet. The lid is different, the bottom is different, the handle is different, the clay is most likely different, ... The size is 200cc. When I post new pictures later this week, it would be great if you could compare them to your pot.
Zishaartgallery is too expensive but great as a reference.
A little flaw that I noticed with my pot: I cannot stop the flow of water since the hole in the lid is too small, I think. Maybe, I will try to fix it, but I am not sure.

I gave it more thought, and I think that the small hole is not the problem. At least this does not make sense to me. Maybe it is the shape of the lid... I don't know...

@Mark-S why would you need to stop the flow with the lid? If required you can use a tilt-back motion to do so, requires a bit of practice and each pot will be different, but it’s doable.
Airtight lids are also something rare in older pots and frankly an unnecessary requirement... for some reason it’s one of the things vendors of new Yixing often demonstrate: tight fitting lid and air hole stop flow. Gimmicky, but non-essential.

A few things about this pot make me question it’s authenticity. Air vent, lid seal and lack of scalloped interior lid seem questionable. I think the smaller version of this pot doesn’t have same lid details as 250ml version though so take more photos and measure ml volume.
$175 is good price if legit but personally I would send it back if its not.

Because 100 yuan mass produced taobao pots can do all this kinda tricks, while 1500 yuan full hand ones, not always... Seems a good way to distract the customer's attention from more important parts of an yixing teapot, like the clay?Bok wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 9:33 amMark-S why would you need to stop the flow with the lid? The size is 200ml. The pictures were taken with flash. I will upload better ones on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, I have never had this kind of clay before. And I am no expert in this stuff. So I cannot say if it is legit or not. However, I will most likely keep it. I do not think that I would get a better one any time soon.
@Bok
It would be nice to stop the flow on the way to the next cup. But you are right. It's just a gimmick.
Any idea what the seal could mean? Maybe it answers the question how old the pot is.
