@mafoofan to your point, this video from GTH (depicting Master Zhou from Wuxing Shan Fang) suggests that for a ranked master, they will not even fire a teapot that has any imperfections:

The irregularity in your lid’s bottom rim:
is it an acute “dip” in the level of the edge? How noticeable to naked eye?

Weird about your spouts. I haven’t had my teapot as long, but will observe.
It's noticeable if you really stare at it, but the way I tell is by pressing it against a table and it wobbles a bit. Seems to be more with the diamond grade clay, and less so with the bronze grade. Maybe it has to do with the clay shrinkage?

I understand where you're coming from, but try to focus on the experience of using the pot to brew tea. The more I use my CJF pots (including her apprentices' ones) the more I appreciate them.

Please do report if the spout starts chipping. I'm wondering if it's because I pour boiling water straight into the pot when making tea / after rinsing, and not slowly warming it up like I'm supposed to

Yes! You are right. Any idea how to purchase this book as a westerner without having to spend about $100 only for shipping? :D
Not sure. Maybe contact Wushing Books if they still sell it? You can use a shipping agent to pay and forward from Taiwan (e.g. EZstar on fb), although it increases the cost. For shipping from TW you can check https://www.post.gov.tw/post/internet/U ... D=24020805, likely about USD40 for EMS shipping. However, I have recently purchased some puerh from TW and before i could get it shipped to Canada it got stuck there because of the Covid situation, so i'm crossing fingers now.

FWIW, I've had one of the #1 clay CJF pots from EoT for about 5 years now, and it's seen pretty heavy use, but I've had no issues with the spout chipping or anything like that.
Two of mine started to chip at the beginning of the quarantine. One even chipped twice. Must be the virus

@.m.

Thanks for the advice. I have purchased it on Taobao and use a company called "Tiptrans" to ship it to Germany. I was tricked by a Chinese seller before. Hopefully, this seller is honest and the shipping company does not mess it up.

That is for sure if not a scam then an illegal copy of the book!

I can confirm with 100% certainty that all shipping with EMS to the EU(and most other countries excl US so far) is suspended from Taiwan... only way at the moment is Fedex or DHL which is indeed more likely 70+ euros

@Demea a barely noticeable imperfection is in my book something to be expected from a handmade teapot and proof of the human inability to be perfect :)

Only machines deliver perfect geometry.

What concerns me more is the random chipping. If indeed without fault of yours that shop never ever happen, unless something is wrong with the clay or firing! Do you have pictures of it?

I'm worried it's a fault of mine, but I don't know what I did that caused it :'(
Do I have to slowly warm up the pot first before pouring boiling water in? I know that's the best way (avoiding thermo shock), but I was too lazy.

Here are some photos:

Idk about the top one, but the bottom one looks like a small chip from a hit.

I never heard of thermal shock causing chipping. Cracks and hairlines yes, but not at the spout. Spout and other extremities would also be the least prone to cracking. But they are the most prone to damage caused by the user. The chip under the spout is a very typical one, I've seen it a zillion times on old teapots

Inside spout chip not so much... Unless you have a habit of nose-picking on teapots?
