I found this pot in Chinatown nyc and really liked it. They asked for something like 125. I assume it’s not the best quality. Would appreciate if anyone can comment on the quality.
Is it real yixing? What kind of clay?
Is it garbage? Just overpriced?
Would appreciate any comment
A Chinatown find?

Looks like your at one of those pop up antique replica stores on Bowery near Spring st. $125? That's way too much. They normally sell those for 50% less than they're listed for.Kale wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 1:23 pmI found this pot in Chinatown nyc and really liked it. They asked for something like 125. It's a lower quality pot but probably usable compared to what most other shops around there sell.
There was no listing of the price and the guy didn't know english (which made think..mmm... so perhaps its not a tourist store and it might be a good pot ).Chadrinkincat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:29 pmLooks like your at one of those pop up antique replica stores on Bowery near Spring st. $125? I googled-translate "whats the price" and he wrote 125... I have never been there... should I ask for a lower price? is that considered rude?

Is this one from a shop on Bowery?
They normally have price tags on them that are high with hopes that you'll be too afraid to haggle or feel like you got a good deal if they lower price for you. I used to live in Chinatown so I passed by multiple stores like this one everyday. I've seen pots just like that one being marked down to $25.
Yes, I saw it at Noho pharmacy.Chadrinkincat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2018 3:00 pm

They keep them behind glass in the back so I thought they might be better than the “plastic” ones. The guy doesn’t speak English so I don’t know how can I negotiate and as a matter of fact didn’t seem to like my presence there.
Do you know of a place in the area where I can find something decent? (By which I mean modern but ok quality)

This shape should belongs to one kind of 具輪珠, a classical shape which the Japanese preferred in Qing dynasty. From Qing dynasty, the Japanese ordered and imported a lot of Yixing pots. Of course this one is modern, the artist name looks like 郭建平.

Manhattan Chinatown is not a good place to buy tea or yixing. I've literally gone into every store including ones hidden away in malls and on east broadway and didn't find anything worth buying. Only place I know of that's sells decent yixing is TShop but they're selection is pretty small. You have you go to Fang tea in Flushing for a better selection of authentic yixing.
Also here's a thread on teachat that list pretty much every place in NYC that sells puerh, yancha and yixing.
