Funny you should mention the Akitsu and Nosaka, cause I plan to get one of each! Lol, I've already emailed hojo about it, just waiting to hear back. I've never bought from him before, but I hear great things. I was browsing through old threads about pots when someone mentioned japanese pots as opposed to yixing being a better price point, esp when you consider I'm not experienced enough to really know how to identify a good yixing pot, and how japanese stuff can tend to be more reliable. Do you have any of the Akitsu or Nosaka pots yourself?

New, vintage, antique?
Most of them just look like Yixing in design, only upon closer inspection one can spot the differences - if you know where to look.
Old ones have a coating in red clay outside, so they look shiny, although CZ clay is mat and orange. Which you can see in my pots posted above.

Thanks for all your help. I'm looking for the skill to determine the difference of the teapots made in Yixing / Chauzhou. Well, that is relatively easy for older CZ pots:
- Red clay coating outside
- wheel throwing traces
- often funny spouthole entrance inside, often too small, so these pots have a slow pour
- same shapes as Yixing in general, yet often poorly crafted. You kind of get a feel for them once you’ve seen a few.
- different seal chops and markings.
- inside colour of clay is more orange than red.
For modern ones it is more difficult, not many pure CZ clays anymore, mostly blend so the colour is off.
Only the wheel throwing traces on the inside can identify them as CZ, designs etc are mostly identical to modern Yixing.
I noticed that on some the spout design is more sophisticated than on your average Yixing.
For antique and high quality CZ pots all bets are off, those can be marvellously executed, anyways those are usually higher priced than what the average Western tea geek is prepared to pay
