I decided to compile a list of tea shops in NYC since my prior list on teachat was somehow deleted. Feel free to add to list or leave reviews of shops.
Flushing, Queens:
Fang gourmet tea
This prob the most well known shop in nyc. Good quality loose teas including some raw puerh, 80’s-modern yixing and widest selection of essential teaware. www.fangtea.com
Xiang Tea is located at 37-12 main st. Its tucked away in the back of mall on left side. Big selection of tea and yixing. Prices of stuff seemed a bit high on some things. Some of the vintage yixing didn’t look authentic.
There is also another new shop that opened up in same mall as Xiang tea that has a lot of interesting vintage teas and yixing.
Red Teas? Pretty sure that was the name. Located at 37-2 main st. Giant Windsor school sign above the entrance. Really narrow shop in the back. Authentic looking 2009-12 Dayi cakes, oolong and various teaware.
Brooklyn:
Puerh Brooklyn in Williamsburg. They carry a number of puerh from yunnan sourcing and tea-ware from well known European pottters. They often host events. www.puerhbrooklyn.com
Orchid tea house in Bensonhurst: Kingston has a massive selection of antique and vintage tea ware including lots of older yixing. Well curated selection of teas. www.orchidteahouse.com
Manhattan:
LC Tea Trading Inc @ 123 Elizabeth st.
They have a huge selection of yancha as well as some puerh and black tea. No yixing.
New kam man @ 200 canal st.
Supermarket with large selection of cheap box/can teas. Only shop in NYC that sells both red+yellow Seadyke cans.
Tshop @ 247 Elizabeth st.
A small curated selection of teas including puerh, yancha and TW oolong.
Tea drunk @ 123 E 7th st.
Small narrow spot with modern chic vibe. Their tie lo han is pretty decent but overall their prices are high. www.tea-drunk.com
