Keyword is oxygen here. The more oxygen is occupying space in the caddy, the more likely it can negatively impact the tea. Porcelain can be very good long term storage if you wax seal it airtight. Then it’s just a question of time and quality of the tea.

Trying this tea again after a month of breathing:

The tea continues to improve: more fruity and much reduced roast. However, the rougui like spiciness is all but gone.

Interestingly, found this shell in the tea. @Baisao thinks it might be a tea seed.

Tea seed yes. Or the farmers were snacking on Longan while processing.
