In my knowledge ( we were told by our shipping company manager ) , the EMS ( e-packed / e-express ) doesn't give any discounts to anybody anymore , we all ( vendors in Kunming ) pay same price which stated on their official DB ( website accessible to vendors who ship via EMS ) .
We do not make any extra money on shipping ( which is already expensive ) , we only add 5% Paypal fee which is automatically taken off from the transaction so we don't even receive it.
When pandemic started , the sort of Covid fee was introduced by EMS company . On some countries it could be up to 12$ / parcel. Now the fee is not applied anymore, but some countries raised general price.
The most fair comparing of shipping fee is to order from different vendors at the same time ( same shipping method ) and then weight the actual unpacked boxes , then compare weight per gram.
To find the best ( for customer ) shipping fee of course is to order some similar type of tea ( loose / pressed ) and compare how parcel is packed and the shipping fee in total.
Like order 357g cake from vendor A and B and see how it arrives as the weigh with packaging , shipping fee price.
We have padded envelopes , which are very light , but for some tea cakes I do not feel confident to use so.
We would love to offer cheaper shipping fee , but since we do not get any discount from the shipping company , I'd have to incorporate the $ into the products , which is the type of marketing we do not agree with ( as I describe on our blog ), because it creates a false impression of buying higher value products. Same as free shipping concept ( where the price is completely covered ) .
