Some years ago I recall having a couple of oolongs from Taiwan, which were fantastic. Problem is, I can't recall brand, location, or even how I got them. Pretty sure these weren't "competition grade" (aka, competition price) teas, just high-quality daily drinkers. Might have been dongdings?
Hoping the luminaries here might be able to recommend a vendor that specializes in Taiwanese oolong and that, if not located in the US, has a good track record of shipping here?

Okay, I had planned to wait for 2020 oolongs to become available before making some new big orders to make sure that I have tea to drink for most of the year. I'm running out of nice tea to drink, but the shipping delays are messing with my plans...
I'm still waiting for some teacups i ordered at the beginning of march, so if there's a ten week delay before stuff arrives by EMS I either need to find a shop that ship with DHL or order some stuff asap if i want to drink nice tea this summer.
I assume the 2019 stuff is still nice, so I could order a big batch of last years tea I guess too. I had planned to order some yancha from txs and some dancong++ from wuyiorigin. Any recommendations for specific teas or other vendors?
Anyone picked up the yancha sampler from txs? Is it good? I'm thinking of ordering that now and enjoy the samples before making a bigger order of 2020 tea once it becomes available...

I'm not going to be able to help you out with specific recommendations, but generally speaking there's definitely no need to worry about getting "last year's" (or older!) oolong. Roasted ones in particular, I can't think of many yanchas that wouldn't benefit from a resting period of a couple years after roasting.Rmt wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 3:57 amI assume the 2019 stuff is still nice, so I could order a big batch of last years tea I guess too. Same is true for most Taiwanese oolongs imo. I'm about to run out of HY Chen's 2018 dongding. Which means I'll soon have to start on the 2019 harvest, which is sooner that I had hoped (I repeat the same mistake of buying too little each year).
Dancongs might be a different story, don't really know them all that well, although I've had several with more than one year of age at the time of consumption that have been great.

I’m after dancong and yancha. Nothing atypical just some nice rou gui, shui xian, tieluohan and the like. Been looking at some stuff on txs. For dancong I take what I find, I’m out to sample more widely. Variety of dancong seem so wide, and I’ve only had some more typical ones.Ethan Kurland wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 8:50 amIt is easier to help if one has a full list of what someone wants or if that list includes almost all teas, a list of what someone does not want.
As for the specific tea suggestion, I was thinking of tea in those two categories from the two shops I mentioned

Anyone order from Tea Home recently?
I bought some of their dong ding a couple years back, it was very decent for the price. Thought I'd try a few teas from them again, but it doesn't seem possible to select international shipping on the official page. (Their Ebay store seems to have been abandoned.)

balthazar, I have had a strange feeling about your avatar since seeing it. Today out of the blue, I remembered the movie, Au Hasard Balthazar by Robert Bresson. Not a barrel of laughs but a work of art, yes? I saw it at the Harvard Epworth Church at the edge of Harvard Yard, Cambridge, Mass. The pastor had a wonderful, wide knowledge of movies & introduced thousands of people over some years to so much from so many countries. That was 45 years ago! That was a fun stage of my life. Thanks for reminding me.
It is indeed! Yeah, definitely not a jolly film (none of Bresson's are).Ethan Kurland wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 1:50 pmbalthazar, I have had a strange feeling about your avatar since seeing it.
