Chrysanthemums and lavendar mix. Just dropped the two from separate bags randomly into a 450 mL glass pot and filled with hot water, free style. Using a porcelain filter over a cup when pouring.

Sweet, floral, earthy and a little spicy.

Welcome to TeaForum @Alexandra. I see the ingredients are Tilleul 87 %, arôme , granules de miel 3 %. Tilleul comes from Provence, in the USA it’s called Linden tea. Harney & Sons has a version Tilleul (Linden Leaf). You might try making your own using Linden leaf and flower and adding honey.

Rose damascena from hojo

Here is his description:
I assumed that many people has ever tried rose tea. For me, the ordinary rose tea's flavor reminiscent the flavor of cinnamon or pickles. Honestly, I did not enjoy the aroma of ordinary rose, therefore till now I didn't introduce it.

Few years ago I tried the Rose Damascena essential oil at the cosmetic counter. It gave sweet aroma like honey. When I first tried the Rose Damascena tea, I was shocked by its flavor. Its aroma is completely different from the ordinary rose that I knew before. This Rose Damascena tea gives a sweet aroma like honey with a fruity note.

Brewed 6 rose buds in 450 mL pot for 40s. Then this was followed by 30s brews. Infusion is quite green. The rose scent is quiet but calming. The soup is a bit oily with smooth mouthfeel. It has a caramel sweetness and floral aroma (as expected) with persistent aftertaste. There is a mild strawberry note. Interestingly, I felt some caffeine-like kick even though it should be caffeine free. The soup tastes better when cooled down a bit.

neat. i was curious about that one, thanks for sharing.

is it more of a novelty thing for you, or would you consider buying more of it @ ~0.35usd/g? i might it add it to my next hojo order.

For my wife. She likes herbal infusions blends. But this flower is surprisingly pleasant. Hojo recommends throwing one or two into chinese greens, whites or young sheng when grandpa brewing.

I am tempted to throw one in my cz pot when brewing up 2nd flush darjeeling that shares some of the Rose's flavors and aromas

A while back, in the old forum, I posted a few experiments adding aromatic rose buds and other flowers to medium grade oolong with success. Some members thought this was blasphemy, haha their loss. I guess some look down on experimentation and tweaking their teas, quelle horreur. I currently have an excellent Rose Oolong made by HY Chen, it was a small production, and the oolong is high quality. It has surprisingly longevity aromatically and taste wise. I’ll try and post pictures later.


In aromatherapy Rose is often used as an anti-depressant and to relieve stress. From Pharmacological Effects of Rosa Damascena;
The most therapeutic effects of R. damascena in ancient medicine are including treatment of abdominal and chest pain, strengthening the heart (22), treatment of menstrual bleeding and digestive problems (23), and reduction of inflammation, especially of the neck (24). North American Indian tribes used a decoction of the root of R. damascena plant as a cough remedy to ease children’s cough (13). This plant is also used as a gentle laxative (16). Rose oil heals depression, grief, nervous stress and tension. It helps in the reduction of thirst, healing old caugh, special complaints of women, wound healing, and skin health. Vapor therapy of rose oil is helpful for some allergies, headaches, and migraine (16,25).

Wow, this Rose oolong from HY Chen is very good on so many levels. It’s aromatic but not in your face, the flavors are complex and subtle as well, with many nuanced layers. This is one very elegant oolong. None of those off-putting artificial scents or flavors found in cheap potpourri teas some associate with flowers and herbs added to tea. He has added only rose pedals (not buds) which are pretty small, and they don’t get bitter if over-steeped. The liquor is smooth, viscous, sweet and well balanced, with longevity as well. This was kindly included as a gift in 2018, if he has more I’d definitely get some. Impressive 🍃.


Steeped in 100ml mid/late 80s F1, HongNi Duo QiuShui by Fang Jian Fen, using antique Imari deer cups. The Heart Sūtra is inscribed around the teapot. 6g/90ml/210f/70sec.

My quirky Spring blend:

2x damascena rose buds
2x chrysanthemum buds
1/2 teaspoon lavendar
1/2 teaspoon ceylon cinnamon
A few small slices of fresh ginger

Popped into my cheapo 320 mL shudei pot. Boiling water of course! Waited 3 min.

Rose added nice thickness and sweetness. Cinnamon, lavendar and ginger contributed some different kinds of earthy, warming and bright spiciness. Very nice and relaxing.

This pot from ocha was initially used for deep steamed sencha. As I prefer lighter steam sencha, this went into disuse, and then tried it with black tea..and finally chai blends and herbal stuff hahaha.

Beautiful. The blend is interesting: I’m trying to imagine the taste and thinking of rose water added to cinnamon in a rice pudding: if the floral and spice are delicately handled, should be as fine a taste as it is a fine vision.
