Black tea for flavoured mixes

Hello. I was wondering what kind of black tea would be good for base of fruity or herbal mixes. I've seen Ceylon OP / P black used in some tea stores but would Chinese black be good for it (let's say keemun). Perhaps it simply depends on price?

Usually, some low grade black is used. Anything else would be a waste. Normally Assam.

Thanks for your replay. It's just.. We usually buy for years some loose black chinese tea from supermarket (decent price and quality for my taste). But this is alittle boring so I tried adding some dried herbs. It gives interesting results. Do you think Ceylon tea would be better for flavoured teas?

If the tea is not interesting enough on its own, I’d just buy better tea instead of adding things to them. Lots of quality black teas have a lot going on with notes of citrus fruits, honey, flower fragrance etc., depending on the tea.

Life’s too short for bad tea
If I can’t have good tea I go for coffee.

Nilgiri OP grade tea might also be a good fit. A lot of the simpler grades are grown for blending. The same should hold true for Ceylon simpler grades.
