James Norwood Pratt mentioned in an article on the recent history of tea in America that white tea became popular after Britney Spears started drinking it when her personal trainer recommended it for health reasons, but I can't find much else on this... I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case, as historically a very reliable way to get a tea to become popular in the U.S. is to make it part of a health fad. (Bancha and kombucha both made their way in the U.S. on this idea, for instance.)

Can anyone point me towards more info on this trend?

Thankfully the celebs either don’t talk about it, or more likely, don’t drink fine loose leaf tea. Imagine if Drake was being interviewed after breaking into an aged Sheng cake, which he prepares in an ancient yixing pot and sips out of a small tea cup? My gosh the idiots would be everywhere including invading this forum! Tea would sky rocket in the west, fakes everywhere...

Na, most tea wouldn't be affected. I'm certain that Drake wouldn't drink anything weaker than LBZ

There was a scene in Ocean's 12 or 13 where Eddie Izzard's character kind of randomly orders sencha, states that this means "Japanese Green Tea," and very specifically instructs the waiter on the proper brewing temperature, in a pedantic, haughty yet cheeky manner. Fun.

I don't usually re-watch stuff, but I think I'll re-watch HBO's Succession. It was that good, and with so much production on hold, I'm running low.
