Good evening.

Another oolong tea rom Taiwan high mountain tea.

When you drink it, it is not thick in the mouth, but a bit of cold water inside it though it is hot.
They you swallow it, the after taste comes back to Your throat an your mouth, lingering for a while.

That is the best part of Taiwan oolong tea.

Have you had your experience before?

Please share with us. Thank you.

Tonight, enjoying a very mellow session with Rou Gui from Tea Habitat, opened a couple of months ago as part of a Rou Gui tasting session. Tonight I’m not worrying about precise flavor profile or brewing parameters, but I’m simply enjoying it, rich and warm and earthy and mellowly delicious. Mmm.

It has been a difficult and stressful day and it’s just so pleasant to relax with this gentle and undemanding tea.

Some rather nicely aged 10y old Oolong. Small quantities, small pots, big returns in flavour.

Some lovely Qi Dan from OldWaysTea, warm and comforting and perfect with my lentil soup. Fine clear rock taste, and a roast that feels spot-on for a chilly damp evening.

Bridged old and new years with light roast Jing Xuen from Wistaria Tea House: it was my last caffeinated tea of last night, and after an interlude for morning sencha, now enjoying the overnight cool brew last of the leaves with a splash of hot water to freshen it up. Delightful stuff, light and floral and warm.

My amazing wife won for me the 2020 tasting box from lazy cat, which just arrived yesterday! This is an annual drawing contest to celebrate lazycat's anniversary. A bag and cup were generously included.

I include the winning drawing in the picture (and my f1)

EDIT: Thanks to @Bok for asking about the duanni. Remembered that I tried a shu pu in here a few weeks ago (December 11th, so awhile back) for the first time that had a slight fishiness (Huang Chen Hao LME Shu that LP was carrying a while back). I'm surprised it stuck out here though, since initially I thought it might've been the Vesper Chan branded 2017 樟香春韵 (also LP sold a while back as the Vesper Chan Camphor Flavor) I also had in it a few days ago that definitely doesn't have any fishiness to it. Guess keeping a spreadsheet was useful! It's odd to me that it could've affected the tea so much later though I haven't used it much recently.

Congrats and cute cat picture!

My EoT order came the other day, and tried the 2018 Zhang Hui Chun - Strong Roast Shui Xian first. 8g pack in a 100 mL duanni pot. A lovely tea for the price, and would probably pick up a much larger quantity if I had a place to store it. It had a milky creaminess to it along with the woody medicinal taste and a touch of coffee-like taste that a friend and I both really enjoyed. Very easy drinking; probably hard to mess this one up. The initial cup/rinse had a slight fishiness to it that I was confused by, but the rest was fine. Not too strong of aftertaste on this one, maybe some fleeting sweetness occasionally. Was scared off by the strong roast in the name, since I've definitely tried roasts that killed off the tea taste, but I'm glad that the note from @Andrew S when I placed the order swung me to try it.

Had the Old Bush Shui Xian Wuyi Oolong from the Steeping Room today as well, 7.9g in same 100 mL duanni, since I didn't feel like gaiwan brewing. I didn't take specific notes, but basically it was the same thing to me as the 2019 Lotus Peak Zheng Yan Shui Xian from Tong Xin She, since from notes on that and compared to memory, it all tracks pretty well. This seemed a little sweeter to me (caused by slightly higher ratio? 7.9g vs. 6.2g). At any rate, for roughly 82% of the cost, the two seemed about the same to me, pretty classic Shui Xian, nothing earth shattering.

Yancha in Duanni is an interesting choice. What kind of pot are you using if I may?

Also - fishy??? That doesn’t sound right. Do you mean animal musky kind of smells? Fishy sounds a bit concerning…
