Chen Huan Tang's shop
CHT is quite famous, there's a few Western vendors who get their teas from him. But I believe very few had gotten such a good price on his teas as Tillerman did. Long term relationship building pays off at some point!
@Bok, Can you share who these other vendors are? I only know of Tillerman. Thanks.

Let me look it up, if I recall correctly it’s a teashop in Germany and one in Switzerland. They know him there as Atong.

Anxi Dark Roasted Oolong again. I found ideal ratio among temperature : time : weight
Especially temperature is unusual for any oolong, just 60 °C (140 °F)

Chen Kuan Lin seems to be connected with Yoshan Tea, which has a location in Los Angeles. They have a few Dong Dings, though I have no idea if the Sweet Scented is among them. Their prices are also quite high compared to Tillerman's. I wish I'd explored more of his roasted teas when I had the chance!

Yesterday I had a swap sample of a medium roasted Dong Ding from Song Tea. It had that chestnut/toasted rice/buttery roasted profile, but also lots of florals, ginger, and ridiculous amounts of mango in the cup and in the aftertaste. The roast complemented the tea rather than overwhelming it. However, it's $45 for 30 g. I've had similarly priced teas that were roasted to death, so price isn't a great guarantee of quality.

Oh wow, seems CHT has been busy in the German-speaking areas:

Austria:
Rami tea
Germany:
_Teekontor Kiel (has a lot of different teas by him apparently)
_Schnorr Frankfurt
Switzerland
_Shui Tang, Zürich

And there seem to be more...
I wonder what kind he is selling abroad, his teas are already a bit pricey for what they are in Taiwan, plus the extra export+EU+etc. fees...

Wow, just checked Teekontor Kiel, they have something like 26 different teas from him. :o
Shows that a bit pricey in Taiwan may still end up 'normal' price in Europe even after the importation fees and vendor's cut.

Doesn't work that way, haha
Whatever the price in the EU is, it will be much less for the same tea in TW. So more likely lower to mid grades are exported. The higher ones would leave not enough margin/market wouldn't accept it with a normal margin added. He's got a lot of different grades and prices.

Thanks for your reply @Bok. There certainly are many HT Chen oolong to choose from especially at Teekontor Kiel, really nice for EU buyers. I’m traveling with his top quality 2023 roasted Lishan that we got from Taipei shop a few years ago for $300 usd per jin, this year $200 per jin (same quality I think) so Yes in Taiwan prices are much less than EU prices. I think the difference in price between 2020 and 2023 had to do with production level, exchange rate and slight mark up for extra suitcase full of tea my friend brought to LA!

Nothing like a late night tea session to help stay up until midnight! Drinking some Qi Dan Yencha in my 70s F1 pot... Pretty standard Yencha profile -- spicy, fruity, with a touch of minerality.

Happy New Year!
