So here's the story: I have recently bought some ripe pu from Yunnan Sourcing, specifically their "12 Years Aged Golden Melon Ripe Pu-erh Tea Tuo".
It is described by YS and all the reviews as a mellow and smooth ripe, with earthy notes and everything you would expect from an aged shou (ripe) ...

The problem is that although the tuos I received look exactly like the pictures on the website, they taste very much like a sheng (raw) pu... Everything from the astringency, the cha qi, even the liquor color is definitely sheng...

I'm not sure what happened here, the tea is a good quality sheng, no complaints here but I'm still confused by the description and reviews...

Has anyone else here encountered a similar situation before?
Can any of you who had this tea before share their experience with it?

This feels like the Double Slit Experiment: it's a particle, but it behaves like a wave! It's a shu, but it behaves like a sheng!

No idea what might have happened. Perhaps they accidentally sent you some sheng that looked similar to the one you ordered?

Maybe you could post pictures of the dry/wet leaves as well as of the liquor?

Hahaha, IDK, it might be an accident since the tuos look absolutely identical in shape and color... But then the question remains: what am I drinking??

Have you contacted Scott at Yunnan Sourcing? He is excellent in helping his customers and accidental mistakes.

I don't think I will, since I'm happy with this tea anyway; I was just surprised with the fact that it was a sheng.
But you're right, Scott has very good customer support.

I just drank of mine. It's definitely a shu.
