Thanks for all the great info.
I was doing some research and I read that the third number isnt necessarily grade, but refers only to leaf size.
Anyone have a line on a nice quality (real) 7542 cake?

The alternative to drinking a bunch of pesticide-laden factory tea would be to order some single village or single mountain pressings from vendors such as Yunnan Sourcing, Farmerleaf, Essence of Tea, or Crimson Lotus (there are others). This will allow you to become more familiar with the distinct qualities of a region and or mountain, instead of getting to know one of the highly blended factory formulas.
Big factory stuff has to meet Chinese government regulations now. If a tea meets EU testing standards, great! If the tea doesn't come with a Chinese government registration code, it may not have been tested at all. Something to consider...

I found this one to be as good as a similar aged 7542.

King Tea Mall sells it for $25 less with shipping as low as $10 for China post or epacket plus it’s 701 instead of the 702 you’re looking at.

I am looking to buy Dayi cakes from 2008-2012 range. Was there any year particularly bad or particularly good ? My budget is around 70 USD and would like to get taste of typical Dayi.
You could get two cakes from TuochaTea for that. Dry storage, but I liked their 8582 enough to tong it.

Shu often takes 10+ years before reaching optimal drinking age and that waiting time could be 20+ years in the case of Sheng. So if you are buying to drink now, rather than to age them yourself, it would be best to check with someone if what you are planning to purchase is already at the ideal drinking period of its life cycle. I've only been drinking teas for a couple of years and am inexperienced in regard to this aspect.

Thanks. I was little weary of king tea mall. The sight looks like it could have been another one of the places selling fakes.

John has a faithful following and before selling on his own site was a seller on aliexpress. You’ll find a great many Pu heads and other type of tea drinkers purchasing from him without an issue. I personally haven’t had an issue. Also my Dayi lights up like a Christmas tree when under a black light.

I have worked with and dealt with John for over 5 years. Never had any issues with anything. Sometimes 2 orders a month with him. He consistently keeps his pricing low and if you are ever looking for something in particular he can usually find it. He takes paypal so you are always protected on your purchase.
You wil see me on a few different venues and I have yet to find an unsatisfied customer from his operation.
