I am just an enjoyer of pu'er and in my understanding ripe pu'er has a recipe numeric code on the label.
These two labels don't have that, which leads me to ask how to determine what exactly it is.
I searched puer labels in the forum but didn't find an answer to my question. I appreciate any insight into this.

Hi, not every tea has a recipe number, and even if they do it might not be on the label. The first one is an early 2000s dayi, you will have to match the wrapper to see which one. The second one is a special recipe and doesn't have a number, its like one of the adorned in red cakes. And dayi is a commonly faked tea, so you should always double check for errors on the wrappers

The Red Dayi has 2007-9-6 on the box, and I've had it maybe 10 years, untouched. I can only trust the gift giver, and won't investigate too thoroughly.
The first wrapper, also a gift from years ago, is finished. I was under the impression that the recipes were intrinsic to the tea, that that was a selling point, or something essential to understand the tea. More so a special recipe.

I didn't mean to say that they are definitely fake, I just thought the packaging looked a little odd on the second and the first one is commonly faked so it's worth looking a bit closely at them

No offense taken, I don't drink puer seriously but do follow the conversations here about how much is faked and how difficult it is to verify. These were given to me as gifts, years ago and so as long as the tea leaves are real, whether or not the label is, is fine.
What I am interested in and need to learn about are the recipes, that always fascinated me.
I appreciate your comments and links, they are very helpful.

I've found recipe codes on the margins of the wrapper that get tucked into the back of the cake or on the ticket attached to or embedded in the back of the cake, never visible from the front wrapper.
