I saw them pop up on Instagram, but haven’t heard anything.

Looks like some young people tea start up. Or second generation giving their parents shop a rebranding.

This is the daughter of Mr. Yang of Yang Qing Hao - she has an instagram handle with a very similar name where you can see a lot of these (and her father's) teas.

Seems I was spot on then haha! They also seem to try to explore more diverse TA with their new gift boxes. Interestingly, quite a few Puerh drinkers in Taiwan seem to be rather indifferent to their teas.

I had a suspicion this was the case. Thanks for confirming it. Have you tried any of the non YQH teas?

I don’t know actually, they just don’t seem to be popular or appreciated.

Sometimes you get these weird cases where local brands/people become very known abroad as they are made so by a few “foreign influencers” who talk about them more than people in Taiwan do, maybe because of luck or for being more accessible/interested in doing business with the West. That “Teaparker” comes to mind as well.

I tried the 2003 XG iron cake and a few of the aged oolongs. The oolongs were nothing special for someone who lives in Taiwan and can source better things if willing to put in the time, but I feel the prices are a touch high. The Xiaguan cake, well, same story. I wouldn't pay 9,000nt for 2003 Xiaguan, but I'm sure someone would.

@Benjamin

I just payed roughly 8300nt for a 2003 Xiaguan iron "XIAO FEI" so I guess I’m one of those people. 😂

Hey, good tea is hard to come by, especially abroad! No judgement there, and it's cheap enough per session. Just not for me :)

@Benjamin

This is true. Finding good goods is a lot easier than it used to be. We have a number of vendors that offer a decent curated selection of semi aged teas w/ good storage conditions.

Not sure if anything on their site interests me enough that I'm willing to cover the $25 international shipping currently (sort of torn on this one... I really want to buy the 1998 XG ripe tuos (if anyone has a better source recommendation, please let me know)), but I did ask some questions about the catalog and will paste Sandy's responses and my added translations (bolded) to my own questions and some of her answers below if anyone's curious. For any native Chinese readers, please excuse my lackluster Chinese. I did my best. :lol:

Q1: Regarding your 1998 XG Export to France tuos, in these years since, have they all always been stored in Taiwan?

We purchased 1998 Xia Guan Xiao Fa Tuo Cha around 15~20 years ago, and it has been stored in Taiwan dry storage.

Q2: Regarding the 2011 Loose leaf puerh, where in Yunnan is this mao cha from? Was it stored in Taiwan in these years since?

(Exact mountain or area is not convenient to reveal),從2011年購入後就存放至今 (since 2011 after it was purchased it has been stored)

The tea leaves of 2011 Loose Leaf Pu Erh were picked from Natural Forest which is located on the border of Xishuangbanna, and it has been stored in our storage since 2011.

(not related, but curious how this mao cha compares to Yang's 2005 YSSL cake, which I've heard many good things about)

Q3. Do you plan on selling samples (didn't know the correct phrase in Chinese lol) in the future? For example, I'm interested in your 1990 Xiaguan tea brick, the 2003 and 2001 XG cakes, and the 1992 fu Zhuan bricks, but since I have not tried them before, so I don't dare buy a whole one outright.

If you are interested in sampling, you may order 20g or 30g, but for 1990 Ripe Pu Erh Tea Brick and 1992 Fu Tea, I only have one of each left, so these two are not available for sampling.

Please let us know which tea products you are interested in sampling, we will provide the price list for you.

You may order samples for testing first. Please understand that the international shipping fee will be cover by customers.

Due to COVID-19, there are some destinations that are not available for delivery, please kindly provide your country first in order to confirm if delivery is available or not.

@m2193
Great feedback, thanks!

I was planing to reach out to her about the possibility of buying samples so it is good to know that it is possible. Hopefully shipping for just samples isn’t anywhere near $25.

If with EMS that’s pretty exactly what that will cost… I think the lowest unit of any parcel with that service hovers around that fee at least to the US.

@Chadrinkincat

Glad it helped! Yep, to reiterate Bok, it doesn't seem like there's any way around that issue unfortunately... TW shipping to US seems quite expensive and why I waited so long to place my first TWL order.

I noticed that Sandy's site has free shipping if your order is over 10,000 TWD, but I'm guessing no one's looking for that amount of samples unless you're in the "a cake is a sample" group and have cash to burn.. haha... I wish
