Hello everyone,

although the advice to buy less but better quality is very sound I thought we might try to survey the cheap (semi) aged cakes on offer at the moment and see if we can determine which ones are a bargain and which ones aren’t. You know, for those moments when we want to stock up on daily drinkers or when Fortuna has not been kind to us.

2008 “Taste of Hong Kong” Traditional Cellar Storage – 0,9 cents/gram (Yee On Tea)
2007 Spring raw Peacock cake from CNNP – 12 cents/gram (Teamasters)
Twelve cent brick – 12 cents/gram (Teas We Like)
2008 Dayi 8582, batch 801 – 19 cents/gram (Teas We Like)
2003 Spring puerh cake from small private factory – 19 cents/gram (Teamasters)

What are your thoughts on these? Reviews, comparisons and other suggestions are very welcome. Perhaps we can also keep the thread running and add more options as they become available in the future.

@Octagon
Just a thought that came up. I think price of semi-age Sheng factor into date of the tea, quality of tea, storage location and producer/factory/company. Since the quality of the tea and producer are more complex discussions, and storage is hard to track, I think you can look into further dividing the semi age Sheng by year gaps. Personally, I feel there are divides before 2000, from 2001-2006, 2007-2010, 2010- 2015 or present. So the 2003 tea you named maybe an outlier.

Yes, the teas I mentioned might not have a lot in common besides being (semi) aged and cheap, which still leaves room for plenty of variation, of course. If the list gets longer it would be a good idea to divide it further.

Right! I've been looking at those. Did you get yours from King Tea Mall? How is the storage on those? Are they nice to drink now?

.21 to .40 a gram you could buy some good aged stuff. You can check Discord and search Bamboo Spring and 8653. I been getting some good stuff in from 2003 and 2005 ranges.
