I've gone through a few of these tea thermoses in my day and always complained that the tea would be ruined when stewed at a high temperature for 30 minutes or more before you finished drinking it. That was when I was using them for green tea, oolong or sheng puerh. This thing works better than my yixing for shu puerh because of the heat retention. At 11 ounces it fits a pretty specific niche of casual shu drinking, but I'm enjoying it.

I regularly prepare tea in my 1 quart Stanley bottles, for times when I am away from my kettles, and I have learned through trial and error that shu pu and some traditional roast oolongs take very well to it, and while I've had occasional batches of sheng or light roast oolongs that really sing out splendidly, it is a very hit-or-miss process with them.

For times when I really want something different and need it to be portable, or for warm weather, a bit of green/light roast oolongs allowed to open up briefly with a little very hot water, let sit for 3-5 minutes, and then covered with cool water, can be splendid. Taiwanese mountain teas are particularly fine this way.

Great idea. I haven't given that a try yet

The lovely wife uses this every day for reds and most oolongs. Based on the thermos above and the similarity in heat retention with the one she has I’ll have to tell her to give it a try. She is a huge shou lover. I told her last week to try a Nannuo Shroom from CLT in it to see how it turned out. Nice to know it will probably work out. Thanks beachape.

thermos is excellent for brewing shu, and lately my preferred method of brewing it. and its interesting in comparison in with a gong-fu style brewing, how it brings up different qualities.
