... when you get your friend something like this: 5 Volume Edition on Puerh Teas...
Five thick books, full of pages like the ones attached. Guess it doesn’t get any geekier than that!

It seems that way. Published by a Taiwanese editor, looks like the equivalent of Dr Lu’s book, but for Puerh

Want! How much did they set you back? Looks like a good investment to me.

It's out of print actually, so I had a little trouble finding it... helped to source it for a friend(I wouldn't know what to do with it haha). The whole set a little under 300$ but I guess the shipping to my friend might add another 100, it is a heavy box... shipping inside Taiwan was free

@Bok
I would love to have a friend like that haha. Too bad most text on pu erh and zisha are mostly in Chinese. It will take me over a year to finish five books that thick

@DailyTX It's less bad than it looks, all pictures mainly! Good resource to compare wrapping paper and spot fakes.

I guess pu erh is considered an antique in Asian. Those books will serve as a good regency. I bet it would be so fun to hunt for them along with tea wares if one has the time, resources, and lives in Asian

Tea wares are fun, but Puerh is a ruinous affair if you hunt for the good stuff! Too many fakes and the stakes are high, monetary-wise and also health-wise... I understand clay fakes, but spotting the same in tea leaves is no easy task without trying it, which of course is mostly not possible.
It is the hobby of the rich and old in Asia... not a young man's game

My first though when reading your comment was to consider how practical it is for scammers that purchases of high-value items are done without the buyer being able to perform the one action most likely to help spot fakes or at least poor quality. It does not help that the product is to be consumed years or decades after its purchase, and is supposed to exhibit flavors many people would consider unpleasant coming from any other food or drink.
The man on the street would be forgiven for thinking this market evolved with enabling scams as a goal rather than an outcome to be avoided.
