There is certainly better heat retention. For aged Sheng Puerh, I find a larger pot produces a better brew than a smaller pot with similar ratios.

I really like pots in the 250ml - 300ml range. While I don't always want this much tea, the session is much more satisfying.

It’s been a long strange trip

I haven’t dabbled with a large pot/half pot situation in a while. What differences do you note?

@OCTO @TeaTotaling Always happy to see people like larger pots like I do I immediately fell in love with my 245ml nixing after I got it.

As for the difference with not filling completely up... It's tricky to say. I think you generally get a more nuanced, softer and deeper flavor at the risk of losing some brightness/punch.

I agree with OCTO on it being an amazing match with all kinds of heicha.

I agree with @carogust’s observations and findings. It sometimes comes down to the perfect match where you will also get the punch out of a half brewed pot. It’s on occasions like these that you know, this pot is special and is here to stay!

As a matter of fact, I use large pots for almost all my teas.

@carogust I'm actually not a great user of big pots for sessions less than 3 people but as and when I do use them, the leaf ratio remains about the same.. bigger pot, more leaves, more yum...

I do brew some tea with a bigger pot, stuff like aged 7581, in a semi grandpa kind of way and good Liu Bao is also excellent in this way. For the Shu, I'd go with 1/4 leaves and if LB at least 1/3 leaves...

@OCTO... With regards to stopping.. I haven't bought any new tea from 2011 till this year !!

Another weekend with my quirky Shou-Sheng blend. Today it's 90s Shou MaoCha and 2017 YiWu GuShu Sheng MaoCha from a 500 yearold tree. Again, you get the smoothness and depth of a well aged Shou; gentle sweetness and punch of a decently young GuShu Sheng. Brewed 3/4 pot in my 50s DuoQiu, coupled with a 60s Melon pot. Both pots approximately 450ml.

Nothing beats a good pot of PuErh after a long day's work. Another round of blended PuErh for me tonight. Brewed in a 400ml Nosaka Rough Clay Reduction pot. Blended 1980s 7581 Shou Brick and 2009 MeMei Sheng Private Press. The Qi is very strong with both teas combined. After taste and Yun is deep and long lasting. Extremely calming and relaxing. Packs a punch while being silky smooth.

I would be curious to know what you think of that teapot and potential pairings. I have a smaller one (oxidation fired though), which I have not used much, as it seemed to be muting a bit much for my taste in the few sessions I have used it for. Maybe with more use or better pairing that would improve, but I have not felt compelled to work on that for now.

Works well with PuErh and roasted oolongs for me. Basically heavier teas... But I usually pair them with my quirky blended PuEr.... You might want to continue using it so to allow the pot to absorb more... it will definitely improve with frequent use.

Maybe @StoneLadle will have to purchase under a different pseudonym then...

I think Wu De, being magnanimous as GTH website claimed him to be, will give @StoneLadle a big discount. No need to change pseudonym.

Spiritual stuff aside, it appears that a lot of people like GTH teas. The prices seem much lower than other vendors though. Are they legit as an honest tea seller?

I told myself not to buy anymore teas, but their website about the late 1990's teas makes them very tempting.

I like most Taiwanese oolong I purchased from GTH, but maybe @Bok can get us better stuff

I just checked it and the price is not bad. Do you have pictures of your cake? Would be curious to take a look before I order.

Will also get a Malaysian stored example and try to get my hands on a HKG one.

Don't need discounts just need good tea.

The current discussion on price and aged Sheng cakes are also interesting. It is difficult to assess without tasting and unless one understands firmly where one wants to go or what one is looking for, it's a maze. Taste taste taste, and taste again.
