@StoneLadle Nice setup you have there.

Tonight had some ZSL 2019 Ma Hei, it tasted more like a Wudong Xing Ren Xiang(Almond Aroma/Dan Cong) than raw puerh.
The almond aftertaste and the bitterness was intense :D

@StoneLadle Welcome in! I remember reading your stuff on the other forum as well. I have looked at Purple Cane and you have given me reason to look further.

Thanks! It's a simple one and moves around sometimes when my partner gets annoyed...

Thanks for the welcome!

This vendor has been around for ages and is generally reliable for their aged PE. Lucky to be in the same city as they are.

It was released in 2005, and if memory serves me correctly, stored since the early nineties in Hong Kong and for some time in Malaysia before being released under local branding. Purple Cane is a major player in the Malaysian tea scene. Colour is good now, deep red after a couple of hot washes to wake things up. I'm so glad I cracked off a bit of this because I was just wondering what to drink tonight when OCTO sends me a text asking me how my tea day went. After a quick exchange, it was agreed that a mellow brew was just the order of the night. I had reconnected with OCTO only recently after almost 7 years since we last caught up. He's also the reason why I'm making this post, the first proper one here on TeaForum. We first met over at the other place, you know the one, and we started drinking tea together. I was known as Jedi then...

@StoneLadle

What can I say..... Good to have you back!... hahahaha....

Came home early, very early, and busted out another Purple Cane number.

This one they called a Jiu Nei Fei (old inner label, you know that tab of paper on a cake), and was sold as re-wrapped, unbranded aged PE rumored to be 7542 of mid 90s vintage. Was kind of a steal, as the story goes that it was rescued from HKG, the tongs and paper wrappers all messed up, but hey, the tea still good...

....fast forward to today, it's all about red ruby, smoothness, mellowness and good warming circulation effect, nice that it's been raining most of the day and that makes me think about humidity rising, oh yea! a dozen steeps in, i'm having trouble reaching for the Luk Po....

2003-2005 Hong Tai Chong ripe pu er. Lovely tea. Hits all the right spots for me. Smooth, vibrant, aged and medicinal fragrances. Just pulled a cake out after not drinking it for a while.

Love the color of the liquor. What vendor did you secure this tea from?

I've always wanted to try a tasting group and thought it would be interesting to do so via Zoom or similar app, with some members here. Between 2 and 5 people would probably be good.

While I'm posting this here in the Pu'er forum, I may reference it in the "Groups, Clubs & Events" folder ( @Victoria what would you recommend?).

I realize there are some online and possible more formal groups established but I was thinking of keeping this low profile. I'm also being selfish in that I don't want to go buy new tea just to have this experience, if possible; was hoping someone (or a few people) have the same tea on hand that I do so we could make this easy on folks.

I'm sure there is more to it than below, but so far here are some thoughts:
- Month - I'm fairly busy in the warmer months so would prefer the winter time (November onwards). Though I could certainly do this sooner if we get interest...would be great to have a demo go at it.
- Time of Day - if on a weekend pretty much anytime (10-5 EST); weekday, maybe 4-5 or 6pm
- Tea - posting here in the Pu'er forum because that's the tea I have most of...and nearly all of it from Yunnan Sourcing. Both Ripe and Raw. We would need to share inventories. I live in Canada so I didn't want to get involved with international shipping, but if someone lives in Canada and wants to participate I can mail some samples for one or more planned sessions. I'm guessing this is the hardest part to coordinate. Alternatively, I have some 2019 and 2020 Sencha/Shincha on had from ThesDuJapon I would be happy to use instead. I know it's probably unlikely that more than a couple of us have the same teas.
- Live Session - I use WebEx for work but can use Zoom or whatever. I would be fine hosting the event, technically. I have no experience with how to facilitate a tea tasting event though, but if we keep it informal that's okay. If someone more organized joins in and wants to play this role - great! If not, I would just say what I suggest for brewing parameters but even if people vary a bit that's part of the experience (i.e., some rules, but not too many!).

Post here if interested, or send me a PM. Once I have some names I can post a separate topic in the Groups, Clubs & Events folder and list all of my teas, then take it from there.

Yes! Good color and clarity. I got it from Chawangshop. It's gone up in price since I purchased, but still worth it I think.
