It's the Mid-Autumn festival, it's Friday, and life on earth is rather short...I'd go with a heavy hitter, no holds barred 🏴

Finally got my cakes of the 2006 ChangTai "Chang Tai Hao - Meng Hai Qiao Bing - Ji" from KTM, and this tea is really nice - nice thick liquor with lingering hui gan and just hits me in the chest

Having some 1998 Yunnan Ye Shen Lao Shu TuoCha.... Basically it's old tree material. This tea is a pretty decent for a daily drinker. First try upon receiving it is pretty mellow and tame to the pallets. Needed to let it rest for a few weeks in my storage to bring out it's true potential. First impression, it's clean, decent and it has potential. Definitely a nice daily drinker.

With autumn in full force and all the shu discussion in the other thread, I’ve been drinking shu this weekend. I don’t drink puerh as often as oolongs, but I like those that I have.

Yesterday I made some YS hui run 2017. It brews really really dark, sort of like coffee. I like it, but it’s sort of one dimensional. Nice daily drinker

Today I had some loose leaf 2002 da ye shu. Something else completely. Brews lighter than the hui run. Really rich and nice, with delicious sweetness to it. Strong smell of damp cellar to it once you brew it though haha.

Tomorrow I’ll have some v93 from 2017. Found another tuo at the back of my tea cupboard, thought I had finished all I had :) if I remember correctly it brews quite similar to the hui run.

Tempted to pick up a brick of 90s 7581 that was discussed now though

2006 Green Peacock Lao Man’e:

Sharp woods and sweet tobacco are surprisingly tasty, but around 4-5 steeping it turns into a rich sweetness that develops more and more. Dark red liquor so clear it almost shines. Interestingly enough, the Ban Zhang puerh that I've had has an immediate transformation from mouth sucking bitterness to robust sweetness to mouth sucking bitterness... I need to find other areas that offer this type of experience.

I told myself I wouldn't get into my 2002 Xiaguan tuo until they were at least 20 years old, but I couldn't resist - I haven't tried any of them since acquiring them in 2010. Unsurprisingly, with the tight compression it is still a relatively young tea, though I was able to avoid major leaf breakage when picking at the tuo. Woody and honey flavors with a good amount of astringency (but not overwhelming). Pleased with its progress and looking forward to trying it again in 2030.

2010 Shenyun Tiancheng, Yang Qing Hao. Bohetang material, soft and sweet with almost no bitterness. Since TF makes me aware of teaware that I didn't think I would want. I picked up a beautiful shiboridashi and brewed it up in that. I hear they are good for brewing up just about anything, they added some sencha in with my order. I've never tried it.

Sound like it translates to Peppermint soup, so likely referring to taste profile rather than a place...

This is the higlight of this week's teas so far. The cake has been open for 5 years and we were down to the central part of the disc, and notably the most heavily compressed part.

Stored naturally at home in Malaysia, the leaves still looked bright and were a total bitch to chip off. In the end, we followed Cloud's brewing advice and ended up with a 10% dust and shavings, 25% loosened leaves, 65% of cake chunks amounting to about 1/3 volume of the hard working tea pot's belly ...

Quick flashes were encouraging, with the loose leaf and broken up bits giving off steady honey like notes , with a soup colour to match.. dark honey... The tea's bite was still pronounced, a sprightly 20 year old tea, well dry stored, still very lively and it was past 0100 and I realised I was gonna see the sunrise..

Brew number four, and the worm must have turned and a deep amber liquid poured forth.. the Qi by now was all over the place and silly grins plastered on our faces... The tea had morphed as the chunks gave up a hefty quantity of stuff, and right here was where I noticed quite clearly that the tea did not have the body and smoothness I was craving ...

This tea was turning out to be a masterclass in nuance and storage effects and time...

We gave up about 2.5 hours or so later , totally buzzed and palates ablaze... It was Yellow Label 2 Humans 0...

It was a nice leisurely drive home with the windows down through a deserted city , the returning aroma nicely present , and a deep craving within for the taste of traditional storage... There was no way I was going to get to sleep in this state and a few drams of Lagavulin helped change gears finally when boots dry at home...

From last night, there are so many consequences , like suddenly remembering someone wanting to let go of some HKG stored early 2000s yellow marks at a good price and like right now, getting home after a zombie day to brew some traditionally stored Blue Mark!
