What Pu'er Are You Drinking
2017 EoT Secret Forest
Having a sample of this one tonight.
Dumped the sample into the breaking tray. Looks to be bigger leaf and an almost purple hue to the leaf. Ye Sheng maybe? Not sure at this point. Got 10 grams out to brew with. Heated the water and pored some into the easy brewer and dumped. Tossed around. Very fruity almost like grape skin mixed with honey.
First brew after a quick rinse. Whispers of a touch of smoke. Very light. Taste very fruity and just on the tip of the tongue. Sweet on the aftertaste lingering.
Second brew, still flash steeping. Nice and sweet. A little more thickness and the mouth coating is starting. I saw a few buds mixed in so this may be some of the sweetness. I know there are two types of wild tea. Bitter version and sweet which this one seems to be. Starting to carry heaviness and some berry malt to it.
Third steep, a little more of the white grape creeps in. Starting to have a touch of bitterness mixed in as well. Very light though. Almost like drinking a sweet white wine varietal. Pretty close just without the alcohol.
I wonder if the 2018 version of this is similar.
Flavors: Berry, Bitter, Honey, Smoke, Sweet, White Grapes

Yes. I made it with great effort and stress specially because I had to catch a flight to Germany where I immediately re-established my usual level of tea in the blood stream. I am now going to get a dog's collar to hang the office drawer key around my neck...
Today I am not sipping gushu. It is spring 2018 Seo Pen shengtai maocha from Farmerleaf. I am trying to finish off (please read reduce) the huge amount of samples I was offered and bought. Not bad at all but I am definitely a gushu boy.
Glad to read you're still alive and quaffing
I guess I'm a bit of a wild leaves kid myself, preferably Mengku DXS. With regards to gushu in general I wasted an awful lot of money on exotic Banna leaves in the past but more often than not they left me wanting (especially Yiwu, lol) and I always returned to my trusty factory blends (XG) or wild northern leaves, can't help it.
One man's nectar and so forth …
Sipping some 2005 XG Jia ji, a rather late production with dry GD storage, not exactly my favorite tuo from that year but decent enough with nice somatics, especially deep in the throat.
Received a few sheng samples and wanted to compare them during the same evening so tonight I had a few...
2008 YiWu Zheng Shan "Tong Xing Lao Zi Hao" - Fairly medium or strong medicinal/camphor scent from the dry leaves and little in the taste with woody / old library book undertones.
2007 YiWu Zheng Shan "Jin Tai Hao" - no or minimal medicinal/camphor scent or taste. This was sweeter and more of the stone fruit / dried fruit taste.
2005 Jing Long "Tribute" - This was similar to the 2008 but less medicinal taste and a little sweeter.
Overall I liked all 3. Each produced flavorful juice throughout with no harsh notes or bitterness and a tinge of astringency.

Having wild raw Yiwu puer of spring 2003, from Tea Masters Blog.
I am very hard to please when it comes to aged puer but this one fits my taste pretty well, it's quite sweet and easy drinking and not too energizing (which I like).
Enjoying myself tonight with some extra leaf, 7g / 90 ml.

Drinking the mysterious "cooked Ban Zhang". Overwhelming caramel taste and aroma, light earthy notes underneath. Happiness is a cup of a shou in a cold winter evening.
