Today I'm trying 'The Shu Fits' by Mandala Tea for the first time. My experience with puerhs, and tea in general, is still limited but I think this is a good one. Strong notes of dark chocolate, with hints of leather, tobacco, and raisins are detected. Starting with the third steeping, there's a bit of a sweetness followed by a subtle dry bitterness in the finish. I'm going in for steeping #5 now. Very tasty.

As a new tea drinker, I'm curious to see if my opinions of this tea change as I sample more shu puerhs.

Having 80s raw I got from Liquid Proust a few months back. I was actually surprised by it, it seemed to have had good storage...

Haiwan 908 2014 200g cake. 10g/220 ml, 2,2,3 minutes. not much going on. nutty/woody tones, no fishiness and no fruit tones neither. Clean but a bit boring, sipping it during work on a computer. OK

Having 2010 Boyou Hong Yun Impression, if I’m reading mrmopar’s handwriting correctly. This one is weird — I’m getting dry pulled pork and strawberry notes.

I’ve also made some good progress on my water coloring since this morning.

2009 Lao Mansa sheng from Norbu. It was the first beeng I bought that I knew was sheng, and has been so lovely that I limit myself to a few sessions a year, as I watch it evolve. It is as lovely as ever: sweet, herbaceous, delightful. Flash infusion after flash infusion. So fine.

It can be an interesting one to session. I seem to always find a new note every time I brew.

I'm having some plum beauty bronze level from bitterleaf. I'm enjoying it, in terms of flavour it's predominantly floral, and has a decent body on it too. I would recommend it as a daily drinker. It still is pretty fresh tho, so if you don't like greener/more fresh flavours potentially wait on this one.

The last infusion today of 2010 Pa Sha Zhong Zhai loose sheng from Norbu. A little more earthy than the now quite refined Lao Mansa I drank recently, but still herbaceous, spicy, interesting.

Had part of a sample of 2005 7542 (502) from the jade leaf yesterday. First time trying 7542, and tbh I wasn't impressed. I think I've been spoiled by really good puerh. Mr feng mxl, da xue shan both from EoT. Little yellow mark from w2t. Various samples from liquid proust. Perhaps the 7542 needs to age some more, perhaps it was just that portion of the sample as I've heard factory cakes can vary quite a bit within the same cake. Flavors were mostly woody, with a harsh mouth and throat feel, and high astringency. The one redeeming quality was the relaxing qi. I have a sample of the 8582 that I'm looking forward to trying, and also a sample of xiaguan love forever on the way, which I've heard some good things about.

Gushu yiwu 09 sample from puerh.sk. This tea is apparently made by the producer in the Puerh tea ancient caravans and urban chic, the guy in the videos that accompany the book. Based off that, I had to try a sample. Being 8-9 years old now, it has a slightly aged taste, woody. It also has some sweetness, which is nice and the overall flavor reminds me of the little yellow mark from w2t I had recently. Overall a good tea.

Xiaguan love forever. Really tasty tea. I'm not good at tasting notes but I'd say maybe plums and wood on this one. Not so much qi, but I actually liked that as I'm not always in the mood for a qi heavy tea. I think I'll cake this one at some point if it doesn't sell out.

Oooh the 908. I have several tongs of it that I'm sitting on. I think it needs three years or so of good storage to really come into its own!

Tried some 2014 Dayi Lao Cha Tou 100g mini brick today. I had a tong (5*100g) in my home storage here in Hong Kong and figured I'd give it a try. It's aged beautifully! The dry cake has the freshly baked bread aroma I love and in the cup, I get raisin, date and that fresh bread note, along with some milk chocolate notes in later infusions. Smooth on the swallow and easy on the tummy as well!
