Eh, not sure. It has an old smoke/acrid/leftover astringent edge that easily overwhelms everything else. If you deliberately brew lighter you get something sweeter with a late huigan and lasting cooling mouthfeel, but it didn't really stand out. (The 2006 was the one with rave reviews, which I have not tried).

Enjoyed this - the wet leaves smell smoky, but a dark smoky raisin smell - deep, rounded and sweetish. Smooth drinking, nothing astringent going on. Very nice.

This is from the Singapore group buy that Rasseru did on Steepster a few years ago. The wet leaves smell almost-camphor, the brew is quite orange, and it is smooth and easy drinking. You can get sweetness at the end of some sips, but it comes and goes - that was always the case for this tea! Seems to be more likely about halfway through a cup when you've brewed a little longer. Cooling mouthfeel builds up quite strongly. Leaves an almost orangey taste on the tip of the tongue after a while.
I looked back, and the goal for this tea was to find something mellow and inoffensive for a group of drinkers who weren't necessarily into wetter storage notes. I think it is still a success! (Wasn't sure what I'd think of it by now).

My short journey with puer tea (10 months) has been interesting. First puer I tried was only a couple of years old (sheng). I then ordered samples from a couple of vendors, the oldest being close to 20 years old. I didn't like shou, so I've only had sheng in this time. The older tea brews forever and is of course a very different flavor than fresher sheng. After going through many samples I ordered some cakes that were 6-7 years old. Initially I really enjoyed them. But they were neither fresh or aged, and as such have a in-between kind of profile. Then I gravitated to a 15 year old sheng that had a nice apricot flavor. Went through one cake and I'm still on the second one. In the past two weeks I've getting to some 2018 or thereabouts samples I received with my first order, and now I'm craving that fresh flavor. I guess the nice thing with puer is you have options!
After a long week, finally settling down and spending time with a cup of tea today. Brewing a The HuaYuan Factory 2001 puerh brick pair with a M&L Benshan Lu Ni pot. I had the pot for a while, and did testing with oolong, yancha, raw puerh, ripe puerh, hong cha, and hei cha, I decided to raise the pot with raw puerh. The photo of the pot looks more pale compare to the actual pot. May be it's the lighting

Had 2019 Lishan Gongcha. Thick, strong and smooth, sweet Yiwu aftertaste - my favorite young sheng.
2011 Dayi Jin. I bought a little sample for fun. Even though I wouldn't pay current prices for a full cake, I like this tea. It's strong, has a kind of sweet forest floor/mushroom age thing going balanced with hay, maybe, and some drying astringency. Distinct energy sitting in my chest. Long huigan.
The few young BYH shengs I've tried have been really good, and I don't usually like young sheng very much. Drinking Farmerleaf's Spring 2019 Jingmai Miyun. Citrusy flavors, some honey and quite a bit of astringency (which I don't mind). Surprisingly drinkable for a young puer. Medium-bodied and energizing. I rarely drink young puer these days, but am consistently impressed by the price/quality ratio of Farmerleaf's stuff. Might just pick up a cake of this.
White2Tea Often
Has a smoky edge but not unpleasantly so - is heading in the menthol direction. Was nicer this time than I remember from the first time I tried it.
2006 Liming Early Spring tuo from Tealife.HK, Guangdong dry storage
Has a kind of tobacco taste. Not sweet, slightly nutty, smooth. (Is one of those ones that is tricky to grab onto anything to describe).

1983 Menghai 3242 Sheng... graciously gifted by a friend – yet I fail to appreciate it. Not my thing, again confirming that I seem to have a preference for younger Puerh, 10-15y it seems...
