Manzhuan single tree of unknown area from about 2015-2017 (?). i'm guessing manlin. Dark, meaty typical of manzhuan teas. Walong has more elegance. I haven't gotten around to Taozizhai but apparently its unlike typical manzhuan... more yiwu in character or so i've heard from sources, also at least $4/g for the good stuff. This is a tea that can age well (though not as good as yiwu in general). Prices of this region is way too high due to limited supply, and for that price theres plenty of good old yiwu that surpasses it. Yet to see the charm of manzhuan which is oftentimes punchy and lacking in roundness.

Had some Cha Ping from 2017, part of famed GFZ region, and noticed its sweeter than most yiwu (and GFZ teas are among the sweetest in yiwu) Same day I also tried a recent super hyped region in GFZ - Liehushan 2023. This region only started being talked about a few years ago. Very clean, pure tea with low astringency yet a roundness in the back-throat feels - a good indicator that I use to judge whether the tea has strong Yun and therefore able to age slowly and properly.

Today we drink "Mengku" 2008, the correct Kunming dry storage. Good lao sheng, dried apple, dried fruit compote and the like...

Are there any alive tea drunks left here?

Today we opened an old pancake from the Mengku factory. The aroma knocks you off your feet, the taste is wonderful, we drank it with great pleasure)

Most of them are on respective discord channels, the old school forums including reddit have a few drawbacks. 1) lack of real-time interaction 2) easier access to the chat history through searching through past comments

I still drop by and read each day. I've been running a side business in addition to my regular job.

I lived through the golden age of forums in 2004-2010, it was great )

Can you give me a link to large communities of puer connoisseurs in Discord? Are there similar ones in Telegram?

The seasoned connoisseurs are not on discord - which is mainly populated by youngsters treating it like tiktok for tea - and sheparded by various western facing vendors.

Here it is

They aren’t on Reddit either- which is mainly people who get infatuated by butterfly pea flower tea, Yogi, Twining's, and other bagged teas - with the slightly more enlightened trying to shepherd them to YS, the only tea seller they have ever tried.

CommuniTea channel where it is divided into different tea categories. Other channels are vendor-run so mostly about their teas. I agree, communiTea is basically a platform for them to show-off fancy pictures of their tea and teaware. I do like some of the more serious discussion about the teas/brewing/processing but the issue is its not sustained and easily derailed by new posts about "what I am drinking right now" replete with flowery descriptions.

As far as "seasoned connoisseurs" go, this forum is not a bad place to find them, but they won't be constantly online and typing replies around the clock.

These drawbacks features are precisely why "old school" forums are great for communities of interest.
