Re: Teaware Repair Show-off

Experimental tin repair. I've used a lead-free plumbing solder here. It took some effort to get it right, since the melted solder has quite a lot of surface tension and prefers to form ball like shapes. I was surprised how much torching the zini plate have withstanded in the end without cracking.

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

I reset them when they start to feel a bit dirty, like when the interior is to a substantial degree covered with residues, or when putting a nice tea in them doesn't feel right anymore. The first one or two sessions after it might be a bit awkward, but afterwards the pot starts to feel right again....

Re: Testsubin Black Residue

This is a bit strange. Have you done the tea treatment recently? It looks kind of like a blackened rust iron residue. Normally i'd expect such residues to wash out gradually as you boil water in it, although that might depend on your water. It doesn't look like something to worry about as long as it...

Re: The Essence of Tea

That is quite an unexpected combination, yet somewhat intriguing since it comes from EoT, but I haven't tried it. More usual kind of mix would be aged sheng + shu, or dianhong + shu (this second blend one is something i've been served recently, to my great surprise, at a 'chinese tea culture' gather...

Re: How to clean/maintain my unglazed Shigaraki Ibushi Chawan?

For a minimal care I'd use a hot water and a (tooth)brush to dislodge the particles that could affect taste of your tea, rinse and wipe with a towel. For a deeper care you can mix baking soda with a bit of water to make thin paste and use with a (tooth)brush. For an even deeper cleaning, submerge in...

Re: Pair of celadon cups

Raining on the parade a bit: From the photographs, I don't see anything special, not color(s) nor crazing. What am I missing? I like, own, & use contemporary celadon made in Thailand. ? is serious. What is it that I don't see or know? I find them really nice. The texture of the glaze, depth of colo...
