Re: Round Yixing, oppinions?

I've only seen such short spouts on xishi when they are Taiwanese made. If I had to guess, I'd say it's Taiwanese red clay.

Re: Accelerated seasoning success

I feel like there was a thread back on TeaChat where another chemical was mentioned as well in having great success with cleaning Yixing, but I'm too lazy to go search. I updated that information and posted it here, Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing from Storage, Discoloration,...

Re: Are your brown/purple clay pots also lonely?

Sounds like you might own a few lower quality zi ni pots unfortunately. I have zisha pots that can handle the higher notes of gao shan and green TGY admirably. In general, I have come to appreciate many of my purple clay pots over red clays. I do have a couple very dark zini (almost hei ni) wh...

Re: Accelerated seasoning success

I have Yixing expert friends who soak funky pots in a dilute beach soultion for a week or more to get rid of off storage notes. Of course, they must be soaked in pure water and boiled several times afterwards, but it doesn't harm the pots at all. Might be better than masking it with repeated "season...

Re: Factory or Faketory?

I ran the first two pots past Dr. Lu's facebook group. Pot #1 is authentic 70's F1. Pot #2 is likely a 2000's repro ordered for the Taiwanese market.

Re: Factory or Faketory?

Pot #9: 95-100ml Rou Bing. Long lid skirt with engraving on it. No idea what it says. If anyone wants to translate, I can take better photos. Real or not, the clay performs quite well. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/891/27913268397_8feb5b094e_c.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1744/41881194065_15969...

i think they produced other things, like plant pots. no teapots.
That's my understanding, too.

Re: Factory or Faketory?

I'm really enjoying how some pots are getting varied opinions on their authenticity. I hope Dr. Lu or another expert might swoop in and give us some definitive answers.

#5 air hole is goofy, inside and bottom odd too.
My best guess is that this was a private workshop pot from around '93 for export to Taiwan. Does that sound right to you? Did Factory 2-5 ever use the 6 character Mengchen seal?

Re: Factory or Faketory?

60's pot with 73 stamped in lid sounds highly unlikely. Everything I've read indicates that numbers didn't appear until green label and that they aren't related to cup size. This pot looks like 80's. Sorry, I corrected my above post, it was a 79. But that doesn't change your point. Do you know if t...

Re: Factory or Faketory?

Pot #6: 130ml Nei Zi Wai Hong with tray and cups. I'm very interested to hear opinions/info on this one. My understanding is that the Nei Zi Wai Hong pots of the 70's onward usually had a cup size stamp inside the lid. I used to own a 130ml NZWH pot from the 1960's that had a 79 inside the lid, whic...
