Re: Yixing
steanze Thank you! I am meaning, do you know it's true potential right out of the gates, or does it take time to acclimate. I wasn't sure if the age, and how long the pot has been lying dormant, made any difference up front. For instance in my above picture, the Lao Zini pot, second from the top, c...

Re: Yixing
You do want to go easy on an old pot that has not been used for a long time, and pre-warm it gradually before dumping boiling water in it. Otherwise it might crack. Is this true for every old pot or only Zhuni pots? And if you have used it for a while do you still need to be this careful? It is tru...

Re: Yixing
Bok, and anyone else with experience. Does LQ/ER clay take time to awaken, before it really shines, as opposed to aged clay used for making modern pots. Bok, I know you mentioned in the other thread that 60's Hongni took a little time to come into it's own again. Hi! What do you mean by "awaken"? H...

Re: Yixing
OCTO I always get the odd F1 pots. The inner markings do indeed look like a repair. But I don't care much about the inside. The outside looks pretty good. From the outer craftsmanship it's the best Three Friends pot I got. - Would you call these circles a bad craftsmanship? I've got three con...

Re: Yixing
I can only see the finished result, the grain of clay is finer on those pots. But yes, finer mesh is likely to be the cause.Teachronicles wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 4:11 pm
The bottom of my pot is a bit dirty, so probably staining, and also lighting. By finer do you mean the mesh number/how finely the clay is sieved during processing?

Re: Yixing
Thanks steanze! Was Hui Meng Chen common in the late 50's, early 60's? From the pictures, the colors of the clay look noticeably different as well. Were both of these coming from the same workshop? Yes, hui meng chen was the most common seal in that period. The clay color difference should just be ...

Re: Yixing
This one is a hui meng chen seal. The other one is a nan meng chen seal. The nan meng chen seal is a bit rarer.TeaTotaling wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 2:40 pmTeachronicles Thanks! Mine does appear to be different, I'll have to do further research to learn more. Have you researched the inscriptions on yours?

Re: Yixing
./download/file.php?id=5430 Nice. :D Anybody knows the time span when the Nan Mengchen seal was used? Was it used only before the Cultural Revolution or did it appear later in the 60's as well? Usually early to mid 60s. In later 60s it's more common to see the 4 character Zhongguo Yixing seal.

Re: Identifying modern Zhu Ni
Back to newer pots... posting this for your consideration. With and without flash, any thoughts? I’ve had this one for about a year. The clay turns a visibly darker red when in contact with hot water, but I was reading both hongni and zhuni can do this. It at least tries to pass on the impression o...

Re: Yixing
Thanks, I like uniformity so now that I'll own a couple of pots I'll need some clay cups and pitcher. Damn this OCD :D Usually yixing cups and pitchers aren't great... I would prefer to go with something very different like porcelain than with a clay that is not the same as the clay on your teapot,...
