Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

When this tea was made, it was not roasted. After I tasted the unroasted version, I asked Andy to put a medium roast on it just for comparison. He did and I brought both versions into Tillerman Tea. The roast is a bit lighter than I had envisaged but still very nice, I thought. In fact, this tea has...

Re: Tillerman Tea

You're absolutely correct LeoFox , there is no comma in the coupon code (my error - I don't do this often). You are also correct in that Tillerman rarely offers discounts; we work on margins that are very low by industry standards so we don't have a lot of room. This sale is intended as a thank you ...

LeoFox: is it perhaps processed a bit like an oriental beauty style of tea? (but without the bugs, I assume)
@Andrew S. It could be but I suspect not; OB processing contains a couple of extra steps (e.g. softening the leaf) that would not likely be undertaken.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

LeoFox , I can't speak to this tea in particular, however, most Indian "oolong" teas really aren't oolongs at all. To be sure, they are partially oxidized, but they are made using black tea methods, not oolong methods. What these really are is partially oxidized black tea - and yes, they are, in ge...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

@Toha0652, sadly, with climate change, the differences between the winter and spring harvest are becoming much less noticeable.

@Andrew S. Thank you for your reply. It was thorough and, I must say, compelling. I have "packed the pot" on occasion but I've never used crushed leaves. D.

Re: Tillerman Tea

@Bok, Laoshi is a year younger than I am - when not talking tea (rare) I am 哥. When we are talking tea, it's not even close.

Re: Where did you get your tea education?

When I began to approach tea seriously (mid-90s) I often referred to books. I also have learned a very great deal from other tea aficionados and vendors who have been kind enough to share their knowledge and perspectives with me (e.g. Kevin Gascoyne. Lu Zhen.) However, by far and away the most influ...

Re: Need help finding out more about this Alishan Oolong

@Cifer, @Bok is absolutely correct - the packaging tells you nothing about the tea. As to cultivar, in addition to qing xin, the tea might be jin xuan as a great deal of this cultivar is grown in Alishan.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Andrew S & Bok . While I was travelling in Fujian (in 2013 - I've not been to China since, just Taiwan ;) ) I learned that the practice of "packing the pot" is known as "farmer tea" - 農茶. Andrew S , I am curious that you only get 3 steeps from your teas. I typically get about 6 - and I prefer my te...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

In early 20th century Taiwan/ Taipei, before the naming of Baozhong and its popularity - oolong is the only export tea product. And in this context (LQER Taiwan) - oolong meant "oriental beauty". To prove this argument - https://i.imgur.com/VejSc1L.jpg This book is published in 1956 (ROC 45) - It d...
