Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I am new to green tea and am currently in Tokyo so I bought a bunch of sencha from various small/local stores in my area as opposed to large department stores. I was originally going to order from an online vendor but I noticed that some of them were marking up certain teas for as much as 250% so I ...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Have you tried splitting the toothpick? (Not easy, but manageable with a sharp and preferably heavy knife, such as a caidao.) No, but I will try that, thanks. However, I feel like having to "pick clean" my kyusu every time I make tea will get fairly annoying... That ball filer is located so close t...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Does anyone have any tips for cleaning leaves/leaf sediment from under a ball type filter in a flat kyusu? https://i.imgur.com/tfYgPM1.png The space between the bottom of the filter and the bottom kyusu is very small, and a single leaf or a bit of leaf sediment gets stuck. Simply swishing water arou...

Re: Tetsubin
Water turned purple ?? That sounds like a chemical reaction to me. I've boiled some tetsubin and have never some across one that turns boiled tea purple. At best it turns blackish after the rusts comes off while boiling tea. I have recently serviced my tetsubin and boiled some left over LongJing fr...

Re: Tetsubin
Another thing you can try is use some rice water to further boil. If that doesn’t help, maybe there is something wrong with it... it’s a mass produced kettle, so you never know. It was perfectly fine before I scrubbed it down and boiled tea leaves in it so I'm hoping a few more boils will solve thi...

Re: Tetsubin
Using lid is fine, just not when drying ;) Actually, my teacher might have said to leave it out for 2-3 days (I don't remember if the advice was for the kettle or something else), but 24hr works for me so far. Anyway, good luck! I ended up softly scrubbing the insides of my tetsubin with a soft spo...

Re: Tetsubin
Ooh, that's a lot more rust than I anticipated. I'd suggest that in the future, don't close the lid until 24 hours later or so. While I have a few sciences degrees, I'm not gonna pretend I know how this works scientifically  Just conventional wisdom passing down from my tea teacher / senior st...

Re: Tetsubin
I read the article on hojotea about testubin and I don't see an urushi spot on my tetsubin. Additionally, do you have any (safe) tips on how to clean rust out of my tetsubin? I got it about 3 weeks ago and have only boiled water in it on the second lowest heat setting on my induction cooker. Every ...

Re: Tetsubin
I left my testubin on the induction cooker and forgot about it... When I remembered all the water had boiled out and the induction cooker overheated and auto shut off. I know you're not supposed to dry heat testubins - is there anything I should watch out for to know if my testubin is ruined or not...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I assume you infused 5g in a full kyusu here. Many members would probably infuse gyokuro at higher concentration (say around 1g per 10ml, give or take). Yup. The tea manufacturer's website (where I got it from) suggests 10g for 60-100cc of water, which seemed like a lot so I was hesitant (I'm still...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Can someone give me tips for brewing gyokuro? My kyusu holds about 170ml of water without leaves/full. I infused 5g of leaves with 60C water 3 times for 2m30s each time and the results looked like this: https://i.imgur.com/3wWM2UN.jpg Leftmost is the first infusion, middle is second infusion, right ...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Do you think any of these would be using hon shudei or are they more likely an artificially mixed clay at this price range? http://isobe.shop-pro.jp/?pid=133966574 http://isobe.shop-pro.jp/?pid=133967030 http://isobe.shop-pro.jp/?pid=150127481 I have no idea, but I *guess* they are not hon shudei. ...
