Re: To rinse, or not to rinse.

The cleaning effect of rinsing is probably more cosmetic than efficient… I do not rinse any tea, except Puerh. If I suspect the tea not to be good enough I simply do not drink it, after all I have enough good teas, to waste my increasingly limited time on them. Instead of rinsing to help open up, I ...

Re: eco cha teas

I tried a few of their teas earlier on in my journey - a concubine, an alishan, and a roasted dong ding - and while they seemed good then, they seem pretty average now. Not bad, mind you, but far inferior to what I've gotten from Tea Masters, Taiwan Tea Craft, HY Chen, etc. Makes sense, Teamasters ...

Re: eco cha teas

Their website: https://eco-cha.com/

Can not find any of the local articles about them at the moment, but they attracted quite some attention a while ago, mainly due to being foreigners doing a very taiwanese business, but then Taiwanese media always likes to jump on that sort of thing...

Eco Cha Teas

As I just saw one of their advertisements, I was wondering if anyone has tried Eco Cha teas? I find it curious that the name does not seem to have popped up as a Western facing vendor... searched it on Teachat, nada. They are if I am not mistaken, the only tea company in Taiwan which is run by forei...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Lishan winter harvest from 2016. Freshly opened a pack and the tea is still excellent, even after a year. I only buy very little spring tea as I prefer the winter harvest and stock up on it.

Tea that good is best finished in a week before the goodness fades.

Re: Nippon Banzai 2017

Lots of those in Taiwan as well, they like to build their webs over roads and paths, so beware when the first to walk in the mornings… At least they do not come into the house like the Laya, Taiwanese wandering spiders. Helpful with getting rid of roaches. And they are very loud when running over wo...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

One disappointment of this trip to Japan: my hotel specifically listed 'tea set' as a feature of my room. So against my better judgement, I did not bring my usual travel Kamjove tea infuser. The tea set consists of one electric kettle (temperature setting unknown; the directions refer to boiling bu...

Re: A Time for "Bad" Tea?

There is a difference between bad tea and your worst tea. My worst tea is not necessarily a bad tea. Just less than my best. I would not drink bad tea, but I will sometimes opt for a less good tea.

Re: Silver teaware

Thanks for the input folks! I think I might get one someday. It would be a great way to test if a tea is as good as I think it is. Not cheap for the quality .999% ones! Any good vendors you know of? I have been using inherited antiques, never bought any. I do not know of any Western-facing vendor I...

Re: On Serious Tasting...

Interesting observations guys! Yes, nothing affects my taste more than illness. I work alone now and rarely get ill! Knock on wood. And yes, more subtle teas are more affected by what you've had to eat. I think the snacks are to stop people from passing out from low blood sugar, since tea makes you...

Hi Steanze,
Incredible set!
I've been looking for a "Teapot Tray"
Looks like it is from Lin’s ceramics. But they change collections frequently. You should be able to find very similar ones on Taobao.

Re: Silver teaware

Probably a cross post from over the old abandoned teachat  Silver is only good for top and I mean really premium teas! Even only -very good- tea can become very unpleasant to drink. Just boiling water in a silver kettle has already a noticeable effect. I used an antique heirloom a few times, fo...

Re: On Serious Tasting...

Well, here in Taiwan things to avoid before having tea is hot pot! And most fruits and sweets. Chocolate is especially bad. At least for the less oxidised, roasted teas. The heavier, roasted, aged or black teas are more forgiving in that sense. If I know I have had some of those foods I pick another...

Re: New Web Site: Discussion

Same as above, Taiwan merits its own category in Tea as well as in Teaware.
While we are at it Korean teaware is also sufficiently independent to have its own.

Re: Lets talk about Da Yu Ling

Many Lishan are pretty close. It is the same mountain after all, Dayuling being the highest place. I take a good Lishan any day over the likely fake DYL with the heftier price tag.
