You see... The key is to not be able to afford any of this stuff. Then authenticity is no longer an issue.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Dresden. Floating Leaves Alishan Black is very nice tea. However, it is a black tea (or red tea); it isn't an oolong (although it is finished in the ball rolled fashion.) Red oolong, often referred to as hong shui is a true oolong tea that is made with higher oxidation levels than used for "fresh" ...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

Good idea. Do you use citric acid for anything else? The only other time I have used citric acid is canning tomatoes. Wondering now, does it leave any sour-tasting notes behind, or do those evaporate like with vinegar? Good question. I've not used it on anything super porous. When canning it does n...

Norbu Red Alishan: complexly fruity, spicy, sweet, earthy. Can't get enough of it.
Have you tried the Alishan Black (Red Oolong) from Floating Leaves? If so, how does the Norbu compare?

Another good option to remove scale (as well as stains from porcelain) is citric acid and baking soda. In fact, citric acid is what zojirushi recommends when cleaning scale from their water boilers.

Re: Porcelain Gaiwan Comparison

I have recently started using a Jingdezhen gaiwan and have really been enjoying it. One thing I noticed is that the finish on my Jingdezhen gaiwan is more of a matte finish (which in the description was done intentionally) and not the high shine polished finish of my other gaiwan. Also, it is a medi...

Re: Floating Leaves Baozhong Blind Tasting Event

Got my samples in today. Looks like it's going to be a Baozhong style hurricane party this weekend! We’ll be thinking of you. I see it is getting very windy and you’ll have a lot of rain for many days. No surfing with your teacup :) . At least I won'r run out of fresh water  Seriously though.....

Re: Mei leaf

i tend to stereotype vendors to a certain extent based on their location. as a US-based shopper, the UK ranks fairly high on my mental lists of perceived overhead, cost of living, import/export duty, shipping costs, and other encumbrances. this causes me to perceive their value (quality per USD) as...

OTTI stands for ‘Official Tea Tasting Initiative’ created by Chip.
Is it this one? That's what google gave me anyway ;-) doesn't seem like the right one ;-)

No, that is not it. I believe most of the old OTTI threads were deleted.
