Re: Tenmoku & Jian Bowls

Example of garbage tenmoku. Is it easy to tell? I do not agree with use of the word "garbage" here. These are pretty cups... +1, debunix; however, Leo's use of the word "garbage" provoked discussion which is not easy to do. So +1 to Leo also. These pieces are not rare. Seen for the first time & not...

I can only guess at what you wrote in the essay; yet, I assume that the word "goo...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

What a great photograph, Bok! So evocative!

Does preparation in this pot, or type of pot in general, highlight what you like and/or temper what you don't like much?

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Shipping from China update

nobody wins, except perhaps the shipping companies. I hope this is really due to a lack of flights and that it will eventually sort itself out. I have enough tea to get by until Gaoshan season next spring, if not longer. :P Maybe this will finally force me to drink those aging Darjeelings... In the...

That’s quite some sourcing skill - or sorcery, more like it.

Re: Lapsang Souchong

I like both smoked and unsmoked lapsang, but have found it difficult to find smoked lapsang of decent quality for many years now. I am so sorry to read that, Balthazar. I thought the reason I have not enjoyed smoked lapsang souchong for years was because I had developed my palate taking me past suc...

Re: What are your bad habits during tea sessions?

... I've been eyeing the unsmoked Lapsang Souchong of at least four companies, three of which also conveniently have Dancong. ... I am guessing that one of those vendors is Wuyi Origin. I drank some of Cindy's Lapsang Souchong (unsmoked) & liked it very much. (When I was into that tea, I would have...

Re: Lets talk about Da Yu Ling

I have been told from most every vendor here that Winter teas are top down and Spring bottom up, so I am quite certain that this is the procedure, ... shows plenty of Dayuling tasting sessions having occurred in the past few days. For spring tea, I wholly agree on being patient and waiting to see w...

Re: Lets talk about Da Yu Ling

Curious, why would you say this? Winter teas are harvested from the top down in terms of altitude (the opposite of spring) and generally they are available for tasting by mid/end of October. The harvest is weather dependent and not totally like clockwork each year, but it's usually always some time...

Re: Lets talk about Da Yu Ling

Life is really confusing. I see that consumers can pre-order dayuling for this upcoming season, a season that I imagine would not have its highest tea leaves picked for at least several weeks. Yet, the harvest of the pre-ordered DYL (100k = very high altitude) is scheduled a couple of weeks from now...

Re: Characteristics of a Fine Tea:

I am posting here to bring back this thread which I think is useful to read again starting at the top. Hopefully what I write is at least worth a glance. I started a packet of Shanlinxi after enjoying Dayuling daily for about 2 weeks. I found preparation for the DYL that made it very good for me, wh...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Toha0652, sadly, with climate change, the differences between the winter and spring harvest are becoming much less noticeable. +1 Fortunately, when we work hard at sourcing, sampling, testing, & experimenting w/ parameters, we are still able to find teas that provide what we want most seasons. My a...

How illuminating that "Show your posts" option

Looking at some old posts for some insight & perhaps to laugh at myself a bit, I see that in November 2020 I was amazed that in writing about dayuling of Spring 2020 I had not talked about its great presentation of minerals & its charming note of mint. Guess what? I did the same thing this year w/ t...

Re: Plots with pots

I like this topic, Balthazar. Thai tv shows often feature villains who sit w/ a pot of tea by them w/ a tiny cup by it. Rarely do you see one of the villains drink. Perhaps the message is that if the boss wants to drink some tea, his own pot should be right by him even if he only wants a sip & if he...
