Re: Sparkling sencha, sparkling oolong, and other adventures with carbonation and tea

First experiment with spicy/herb mix and carbonation was a bit too strong, still a work in progress.

But....just now I have had another wonderful experience with sparkling tea: I used the very tart/fruity Den's Mori-machi Puerh, and it was FABULOUS.

Re: Your day in matcha

I use a very small volume of water even in a larger chawan....

As I understand it, the large size of the bowl is to permit splashing as the tea is mixed, and because they have developed from rice bowls rather than drinking cups.

By the way, 30 ml is such a small amount of liquid... If I were to put it in my chawan, I don't think it would even cover the bottom. Are you using a relatively small vessel for your matcha?
Yes, today's matcha was prepared in a smaller chawan or larger yunomi from Yamane Seigan.

Re: Daily Tea Routines

I drink more tea than other liquids, for thirst as well as enjoyment. I usually start the day with sencha, gyokuro, or matcha, starting my tea even as I am preparing breakfast. Often at least one infusion is taken with a morning walk in the garden. After that relatively predictable start, it all dep...

Re: Your day in matcha

if you used 0.7 g for 30 ml of water, I should be using 5.5 g for my 8 oz (236 ml) I wouldn't say you "should" because my palate is not necessarily the most typical, or the same as yours, and I was preparing still pretty fast and loose. But I hope that gives you an idea. I've written about this bef...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Tillerman's winter 2019 Alishan, delicious warm summer hay, enjoyed hot while it is still not hot outside yet....after this session, will be moving on to cooler brews until evening. This is a wonderful dual temperature tea, however: a few leaves tossed in a larger tea bowl, covered with very hot wat...

Re: Your day in matcha

Today I weighed and used 0.7g for 30mL water, with maybe 5 mL of cool water first to dissolve, then 25 mL hot water, whisked and drank, mmmmm.

Very interesting. I love An Ji Bai Cha, and it is wonderful in tolerating some neglect and a bit of age and still being marvelous, mmm.

Re: Your day in matcha

How much is 3 scoops in grams?

I'll have to measure my next matcha session; I've been eyeballing so long I do not know my quantities.

Re: Do you eat any snacks with your tea?

I have tea throughout the day. Infusions of sencha in the morning may take turns between sips of hot chocolate; midday sparkling green tea just now accompanied some cheese and crackers; office puerh may go with soup or stew for lunch, or be a welcome interlude in foodless paperwork. I keep a little ...

Re: Sparkling sencha, sparkling oolong, and other adventures with carbonation and tea

A hot day today, and I've already enjoyed a session with sparkling Red Alishan, and some Shan Xi Xiao Ye green tea from a TeaHabitat sampler set of competition teas. Both were LOVELY. In the fridge now: one more Red Alishan, one genmaicha/extra sencha, and one milk oolong. I have received the first ...

Re: Hagi

I've mostly obtained my Seigan pieces via those past TeaChat special offers and Magokorodo eBay store; I also scout for his wares from ArtisticNippon.com. Mago doesn't have as large a stock of Seigan recently, nor does Artistic Nippon, but eBay searching reveals lots of offers, many from a couple of...

Re: Hagi

that looks very like a Yamane Seigan cup from a TeaChat special offer. Mine was a large cup holding about a pint/500mL. I say was, because I gave it to a former colleague who loved to share tea with me. https://live.staticflickr.com/1311/5108735643_2f6be03e18_z.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/1253...

Not getting a foamy mess with my small quantities of leaf, but I'm not using powdery matcha either!
