Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Just finished one of several enjoyable sessions I’ve had over the last couple of weeks with the organic kabusecha from Birouen. This time I used a Kobiwako kyusu, but I have had good results with other pots. I tried this at the recommendation of Victoria , and I must say it is one of the best organi...

Re: Pesticides: Are Chinese and Indian teas safe to drink?

Something to maybe settle or ignite more fear... It does neither because it’s irrelevant to the discussion about tea and distracts from the discussion about adulterated tea. Sure, I am more likely to die in a car crash commuting home than drinking tea, but we’re not discussing the hazards of drivin...

Re: Pesticides: Are Chinese and Indian teas safe to drink?

Something to maybe settle or ignite more fear is that driving a fossil fuel car is way more dangerous risk-wise for your health, maybe only slightly for the emissions, but mainly for the risk of bodily injury & death. Yet I still drive my car. Yet I still drink my tea. I mean you aren’t actually eat...

Re: Y. Hiromi Woodfired kyusu

Recently I’ve been playing around with some 100ml pocket porcelain pots, and have been enjoying size so much that my ~150ml pots are suddenly seeming too large... so the 180ml is currently seeming a bit big for my solo sessions (I am now kicking myself for not jumping on the Gafu pot you had up seve...

Re: CostCo goes Japanese

I brewed them with the same parameters, so O-Cha’s might be good brewed the same way as Birouen’s. I’ve found all of O-Cha’s organic kabusecha offerings, less so in the kurasawa, to be quite light in flavor. There is bitterness in O-Cha’s. I think another good descriptor would be the bitterness in s...

Re: CostCo goes Japanese

Guess I'll have to try this tea as well. I just received my package of Kabusecha from O-cha today. I'll place an order on Amazon for the Kabusecha from Birouen. I finished a bag of O-Cha’s organic kabusecha as I was starting this bag of Birouen’s, so it was a good opportunity to compare them. I fou...

Re: Spoiled Rotten

Phew...I was just about to start having withdrawal symptoms, when mercifully these two welcome friends arrived from O-cha today. ./download/file.php?id=4319 I am fond of that kabusecha. I hope you find it enjoyable, too! One of the best organic examples of the yabukita cultivar that I have found so...

Re: CostCo goes Japanese

Victoria , that kabusecha (loose leaf) is quite good! I’ve tried a lot of Japanese organic teas, and it ranks toward the top... it may be the best organic kabusecha I’ve tried. Very sweet, smooth, and flavorful. Been brewing it over the last couple of weeks, and am always pleased when it comes up i...

Re: Spoiled Rotten

I have been in a similar situation and purchased some sencha from Whole Foods. It actually cost more per gram than ordering from Japan... so I became even more spoiled and now keep a decent stash of tea in the fridge so that it never happens again... telling myself that doing so is more reasonable/e...

Re: Looking for Yuzamashi info

I have a couple of yuzamashi. Actually one of them is just the bottom part of a Hokujo shiboridashi, but it works well to cool water when I need it for that task with my Kohokujo pot. IMG_0707.JPG IMG_0706.JPG I do not have a temperature control kettle, so for the last 3 years or so I was measuring ...

Re: Your day in matcha

I finally have a chawan on order and will be ordering a chasen soon. It may take a few weeks to arrive, so in the meantime I have been watching videos. I am finding it is recommended to soak/loosen up the chasen with hot water. I assumed I would just do this in the chawan while warming it up, but yo...

Re: Your day in matcha

...I’ve been using the Thes-du-Japon technique since Baisao posted their video on page 7 of this thread... I did not know about that technique. Much thanks for reposting & to Baisao ! I trust Florent’s tastes & techniques. I have been wanting to get into proper matcha sessions, but have yet to purc...

Very nice, @Vanenbw!

That hohin looks even more attractive in your photo than on the website. Thanks to you I am, once again, browsing the Kobiwako stock... curse you :D

Enjoy!

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Session 2 of the sample in the Kohokujo pot... Thank you @Victoria!

I browsed through the forum with my sencha glasses off and noticed I may already have some preferable teaware for green high mountain tea. I will have to try the Kobiwako next... similar shape & size to this pot.
